Modern football key RCs

I am not a big modern collector but started thinking about this based on a previous recent thread about Tom Brady. What are some opinions about which is the key RC for the following players?

1) Peyton Manning ('98 SP Authentic?)
2) Randy Moss ('98 SP Authentic?)
3) Tom Brady ('00 SP Authentic vs Playoff Contenders?)
4) Aaron Rodgers ('05 Playoff Contenders?)
5) Andrew Luck ('12 Tops 5 Star vs Playoff Contenders?)

Just curious to see if there is a consensus from modern football collectors. There is no debate about which is the most important card from the cards I collect since there was only one choice most of the time.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Dave

That must have been the Jets fan in me subconsciously wishing Brady dominated us for 5 less years than he actually did.

    Thanks.

Are you asking about Auto or base cards here? If we are talking about base cards I actually think Luck's Topps Chrome card is his key RC. I believe if you ask people for his key RC Auto then I think that is where the Panini Contenders comes in. Although I am not much of a modern FB collector or expert ).

Rodgers is the Topps Chrome from 2005. Good luck finding a centered one. Near impossible.

I just go with Topps chrome. If they don't have a topps card then bowman chrome. There became too many sets to keep track of so I stopped just went topps chrome. Not sure what my plan will be next year

  • i know its not a popular opinion and they aren't "valuable" in modern form, but i like Topps. Just good 'ol Topps Flagship Football. Released every season since 1956, a great tradition of continuity will unfortunately end in 2015

i am pretty sure the only Megastars that do not have Topps RC's are: Brady, Favre and Warner

I was settled on topps chrome base card but a recent twist has been the photo variation. Sometimes there even 3 variations. I think Lucks best card is the rabbits foot variation of his base topps card. It's sort of interesting but I have no idea how the registry ect.. Handles variations like this.

Like eagles and thosebackpages, I also tend to lean towards Topps or Topps Chrome when available and I think the hobby community is starting to lean that way as well. For instance, I'm a big Marvin Harrison collector, his "key rookie" according to future hof registry is the 1996 SP. His SP and Topps Chrome rookie used to sell in the same range, $2-3 raw. Now his SP can be found all day for a $1 or less while his Chrome continues to rise now selling in the $5-$8 range.
