And finally home from NYINC

What a tiring week, not to mention cold! But well worth it from my perspective, I spent a lot of time with Zohar and EVP and met Iosephus and Harasha for the 1st time, a more lovely group of collectors you couldn't hope to meet. I don't have pic's of everything yet but this will do for a start:
I started with the Heritage auction Sunday, the 1787 PF 64+ Shilling
George III Proof Shilling 1787 PR64+ PCGS, Royal mint, KM607.1, S-3746. Plain Edge - Hearts in Shield. A wonderful Proof of the type, cataloged simply as "Extremely Rare" in Spink catalog. Highly original, the surfaces of the present example hold rich cabinet tone throughout, with pleasing iridescent shades in predominately cobalt-blue, blue-green and orange-gold saturation. Magnified inspection yields a reverse that is essentially pristine with a couple of flyspeck ticks on George's bust on the obverse that preclude full Gem certification. Altogether, a great coin and a rare opportunity.

The plain edge is rated by ESC as R4, 11-20 examples known. And to be honest it was a lot cheaper than I expected it to be so I was very happy, this was going to be my one big purchase for the week. And because I "saved" so much money I was able to make several other purchases during the week.
As luck would have it though on preview day I was walking by the HJ Berk table on the way in to see Baldwins and a quick glance showed an 1825 Proof Shilling, I had been planning on bidding on an 1826 proof in one of the auctions but the 1825 is much scarcer and so I picked this up right away, it's a Reeded Edge proof in NGC 65 with lovely light toning.

I wound up not winning anything in the other auctions during the week but went around to Atlas on Friday and bought the 1706 Queen Anne Barcelona Relieved medal in NGC 62BN.

As mentioned by EVP we went around to Baldwins and he talked them in to showing us the new List which hasn't been released yet. No pics until the coins arrive from the UK but I was able to buy a Geo. III and Vicky proof halfpenny from that list. And Zohar introduced me to Constantine, owner of Vilmar Numismatics, I wound up purchasing a raw Thrace Apollonia Drachm from him, I'll try to photograph it this week and put it up.
All in all I had a really great week, excellent company, the food and wine flowed freely, coins got bought, and a good time was had by all.

Great seeing you again, Jeff. Let's make this a habit!
In the end, thanks to them, I think I bought fine.
For anyone planning to immerse themselves at a large multi-day show, it's useful to have fellow collectors there for advice.

Nice write up and excellent purchases
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Here's the little ancient I picked up. Thrace, Apollonia Silver Drachm, late 5th - early 4th C. BC. Obv. Gorgon Head Facing, Rev. Anchor, A in left field, Crayfish in right field. SNG BM Black Sea 160-1.
I did check the Wildwinds page on known fakes and this does appear to be genuine. These aren't expensive at all, but just a nice design that I like.
From Wiki:
Now known as Sozopol, the original name of the city is attested as Antheia (¢íèåéá in Greek)[2] but was soon renamed to Apollonia. At various times, Apollonia was known as Apollonia Pontica (that is, "Apollonia on the Black Sea", the ancient Pontus Euxinus) and Apollonia Magna ("Great Apollonia"). By the first century AD, the name Sozopolis began to appear in written records. During the Ottoman rule the town was known as Sizebolu, Sizeboli or Sizebolou.
