1889 GB Half Crown

Simple set of questions-

How many PL examples have you seen?

It does not appear that PCGS recognizes a PL designation, does NGC?

In response to your question about the PL designation, only NGC does it. My silver 1828 phoenix for instance is an NGC MS65 PL, a grade that is impossible to cross at PCGS and I wouldn't want to switch it even if PCGS were willing to give me an additional numerical point.

The way I understand it, PCGS labels some Canadian issues as PL (prior to the numerical grade), as well as the Maundy coins (PL 64,PL65,PL66,PL66). But to my knowledge, never after the numerical grade.

Ck, not that it may matter but many of the Royal Mint silver coins of the 1880s are struck in PL.

    Thanks for the comments-

Jag- you are correct that there are GB coins from the 1880s that have a PL look- I have an 1887 Florin that graded either 63 or 64- However, did not PL

I looked at the NGC pop report and they have graded just one 1888 half crown in PL and zero for 1889.

Not sure if this 89 is strong enough to get a PL designation.
