2000 Tom Brady SP vs. SPx

Any thoughts....

The SP card recently went on ebay for $3300 and $3800 - numbered to 1250 - pop report of 68 PSA 10's

The SPx card usually goes somewhere in the $700's - numbered to 1350 - pop report of 68 PSA 10's as well

So, is the explanation simply that the demand is that much higher for the SP version???

Collecting PSU and Joe Paterno items!

Wow there is a Beckett 10 on Ebay for 11.5K

I never got into modern but I was always under the impression that SP was the most sought after

The SP Authentic is the registry card. That has to help it.

Agree. That is THE Brady rookie.

It is certainly the most expensive and desirable RC, but it is not the RC used for the Set Registry. Sweet card without a doubt.

  • I regret not buying the Brady contenders for $110 after the first super bowl or the Crowne Royal Diecut autograph for $60 . Instead I got cards graded by the Final Authority .

I haven't bought any cards in years. I think I stopped collecting in '07, but I still peruse the listings on fleabay from time to time. This is a very good point you're making. I never thought about that.

I've noticed there's always Beckett 9.5s, but rarely any PSA graded cards. At least none that aren't ridiculously inflated like 10k or more for a PSA 10 where the seller obviously is showing off. Anyway, when they are available though, they tend to sell for proportionately more than their Beckett counterparts (a PSA 8 sold for a whopping $1,136.00 last month). I used to think this is because people just don't trust Beckett since that trimmed 2000 SP Authentic fiasco, but I suppose the notion of people chasing it for registry purposes makes sense as a driving factor.

Actually, I think the Championship Ticket #/100 is THE Brady Rookie. image

I have no idea why my PSA 8 only graded as a 9. It was submitted a long time ago before the half grades were allowed. I may one day try resubmitting it again to see if I can get it, but I think it would at least comeback as a 8.5. For that matter, one of my SP Authentics should have been a 10 in my opinion (#29/1250). If you compare it to the other 9s, it clearly so much better.

Man, I sound like I'm catching that collecting itch again.

Given the option to follow a single registry set or the market as whole, I'll follow the market.
