Pack pop, my first. Pic added 1959

Thought I would share this with yall as this is an interesting set.
This is my first ever PSA pack submission.
Line # Item # Cert # Grade Description Type
1 1 23685709 EXCELLENT-MINT 6 1959 Fleer Baseball Ted Williams Wax Pack Ted Willaims 8 Card Pack
Total Items: 1
Date Received: 11/11/2014
Date Shipped: 1/7/2015

I was very happy with the turn around on this pack.
It just popped so they have'nt put it in the current POP report yet.
As it is now it looks like this is the First 8 card 1959 Fleer Pack PSA has graded to date. With 67 regular 6 card packs graded before it.
Im very excited to add this pack to my collection as I have been wanting a legit 8 card pack for over the last 15 years or so. I have only seen one other before and it was offered by Mark Murphy back in the day when he used to sell packs.

An interesting topic with this 1959 Fleer set is the #68 Short Print.

Not many people know how it was distributed or released. If anyone has anything to add that they have heard or read please bring it up.

I have heard 2 different stories/rumors about the famous Short Print #68 Ted Signs card from this set.
One being that people where mad that they never pulled the #68 Ted Signs card and wrote letters to Fleer asking why, and that fleer would send extra copies to people who complained.
The other is that the only way you could pull the #68 SP card was from the 8 cards per pack wax packs.
I could see both these being true as most of the packs on the market at the time where the 6 cards per pack product. Making several pack busters angry if the 2nd rumor is ture.
I do know that you can not pull the #68 SP card from a 6 card pack.
Another thing that is interesting about this pack that I did not know about until this year is that it was issued without any gum. It is just 8 cards and a wrapper. Even though it says Fleer Double Bubble gum on the pack. I thought that was an interesting fact on this issue.
Please feel free to discuss this topic, also if you know anyone who has an 8 card pack or box.

Very cool. Congrats. If you don't mind my asking, how long have you had it and where did you acquire it?

    Thanks for sharing.

Very nice pack, congrats! And cool info, would love to hear other thoughts about the SP.

Unfortunately I had a pack sub logged in late November. If mine doesn't pop in the next few days, I might have missed PSA's shipment to Steve. image

How do you know the difference between the 6 and 8 card pack? I apologize if it's blatantly obvious, like stating so on the pack.

Post a pic when you can. Thanks and congrats.

Just got it back today. Pack looks great in the case and they put a plastic sheet with it. So it cant move around at all which is great.
Only bad thing is the 2 tears on the top corners were not there when I packaged it up. So it looks like it got damaged while being mailed some where down the road.
A positive thing is I can see MINT corners on the cards. I think if it got to PSA safely it would have graded a 7.5-8 . I still love the pack though.

Nice pack. Did you notice that PSA spelled Ted's name wrong?

Nice looking pack. Sorry about those corners. Ugh. Wouldn't dare risk sending it back to correct the label.

    Congrats!

I am wondering if the tears were the result of the plastic shrink-wrap. If it wasn't the gum that did it--and if they graded it I assume the gum is not loose so how could it have been the gum

Curious as to how the tears happened

    awesome pack nonetheless

This pack dose not have Gum Inside.
So im thinking it happened somewhere when it was mailed
  • That is frustrating. I bet they gave you a 6 because of that as I'm thinking that wouldn't have gotten a 6 otherwise typically
