Modern vs Vintage thought

Happy New Year...been a few months on hiatus for personal reasons but plan to get updated on many good threads. Here's a thought that I wonder if others share: I just spent 9 bills on a pristine 1980 Topps baseball 36 pack unopenend wax box. It's gorgeous and has nostalgia and a pontential for sick looking mint hofers...limited of course, love it. Now, before I give my thought I should mention I have hoarded beautiful unopened boxes of topps football from the 70s and 80s for awhile now, and yes I have a problem...ok, here we go: I enjoy some of the modern stuff...I've got auto cards and 1/1's and other cool stuff from hofers...but would u rather have a couple mini boxes/cases of triple threads/panini stuff etc., for the same price you can get authenticated vintage? It's just crazy to me. Spend thousands of dollars on a 1/1 auto that the same person has 500 1/1 autos or.........buy yourself a vintage psa authenticated card or unopenend box. Is it because I'm 44 and love vintage cards and players or is it because I belive deep down this modern high end stuff can't keep up? Again, is it really 1/1 when there a maybe a gazillion 1/1's of various variatals? Just a thought as I slowly dive back in...happy healthy 2015
