Poll - What is the most expensive coin you sold on eBay? And did you have any problem with the sale?

I sold a set for $15,000 some years ago.
This was before PayPal was a required form of payment. I got a bank wire and shipped registered.
It went OK, but I was a bit nervous about the buyer claiming they got an empty box or something.

With all the scammer buyers on eBay today and with eBay taking their side against the sellers, I don't think I'd do it again.

It was between $10-12,000 or so.

    Problem free transaction.

I've sold multiple coins in the $4500 - $5K range, none higher.

I've only had one problem with a very demanding buyer. Managed to keep him happy and received pos FB on that one.

Just over 15K for a coin no problems whatsoever.

Largest bullion sale was also in the same range, easiest transaction Ive made on ebay.

Seems to me the higher dollar items have less issues than $5-$25 sales where people expect the world.

$5,005 and had no problems. So happens it was a guy across town so I delivered to him
at his bank. Paid via cash at the teller window. Back in the day when Paypal was not a
    requirement yet.

Stopped selling on eBay several years ago and I dread ever going back.
    When in doubt, don't.

Highest through eBay for a single coin was about $30k. All went very smoothly and buyer wanted to pay via wire transfer instead of PayPal so that saved a bunch on PayPal fees. And with eBay selling fees capping out at $250 (really $200 after top-rated seller discount), the total fees paid to sell the coin were LESS THAN ONE PERCENT!!!

Couldn't have come close to that if it were consigned to any of the auction houses and the price the coin was sold for through eBay was significantly higher than all of the recent auction prices for similar pieces.

I've sold a few coins in the $400 range. I've never had an issue.

With other coins I've had slow payment but I think that's something everyone deals with from time to time.

  • The highest was abit over 6000.00 no problems at all. The only pesky problem I had was a customer in Malaysia trying to say I faked my images and the coin all over a 45.00 coin and they made a claim through paypal and they found in my favor.

    Hi Bob,
Having a Paypal account when selling on ebay is a requirement. Using that account exclusively for accepting payments is not a requirement.

$650K+ in total sales, mostly gold at an avg. of about $2K per coin, never a problem with a buyer. Agree that registered mail is worth it's weight in gold.

Have had multiple problems with sellers but have never lost a claim. I always choose to file with paypal over the phone rather than with ebay. After all, paypal controls the money.

Several years ago sold a $5K coin that I shipped Registered Mail. The Postal Carrier left it in a road side mail box without a signature and the coin vanished. Insurance covered it, but I assume the Postal Carrier had some explaining to do.

Sold a $6k coin to a well known ebay problem coin seller (coin was cleaned). He is notorious for cracking problems and selling them for problem free coins. I was nervous about how I could get screwed but it all worked out. Followed the resale of the coin on the bay and I think he lost a good bit.

Highest I ever sold on eby was around $5400 for an ngc pf 70 silver state quarter set when they were really popular.
A little nervous, but no problem with the sale at all.

Highest was around $2500 and it was purchased by our own Dr. Pete... so the transaction was flawless.

$1700 a few years ago for a MS62 Saint with a lot of copper spots.

I carefully pictured and noted the spots in the eBay post.

    Shipped USPS Express Mail.

    No problem.

Quite frankly I cannot remember but maybe in the $800-900 range - it has been almost seven years since I have sold anything on eBay. Being a tightwad and not wanting to pay usurious fees pretty much blocks my eBay experience. I have sold much much more expensive stuff, even five figures on the BST with NO problems.

    $500 - $749 with no problems.

Average is likely ~$100 or so.
