I Can't See Anything With The Blaster Shield Down

Hey, I was wondering if the "w/coating" designation on PSA 10 cards carry any kind of premium over those with the coating removed? I'm getting ready to bust a bunch of 1994-95 Stadium Club Members Only 50 basketball sets.

They grade better with the coating removed and actually look a lot better too.

Survey says?

I collect BGS cards and haven't really seen too much of a difference between the two. Couldn't say for psa collectors though. You would think that w/coating would be worth a tad more being that the peel is an original part of the card and all.

BGS says that the peel was intended to come off, and may possibly start to peel off over time while encapsulated although I've never seen or heard anyone say they've had problems with this.

I can't stand it when people leave that plastic coating on electronic devices and the like. I say rip that sucker off. But I have no idea which would be more valuable if your goal is to sell for the highest price.

Copy that. My sentiments exactly. The cards look so much better with more vibrant color with that damn thing removed.

    Rip. Rip. Rip.

Cant say for PSA cards, but many years ago, before I got a PSA membership and Eddie George was hot, I sent in some Select Certified RC's of Eddie, didnt peel the coating (In fact, didnt even know there WAS coating), got the cards back and they came back 5-7's because of surface. Peeled the cards, sent them back in and they all came back 8's and 9's. Isnt as important now that theyre worthless, but to me a 3-4 grade drop because of coating was ridiculous.

On my 1994 TOPPS FINEST HOCKEY, I agree!

But stay away from my 5-year Flat-Screen! That dusty look doesn't make it look too expensive when the In-Laws come over. LOL
  • Damn. Accidentally changed my icon and can't change it back. Or at least I can't find my old one in their menu of icons. Lovely.

    Nevermind. Found an old one.
