What Will this BGS 1986-87 Low Grade Michael Jordan Rookie Cross to as PSA? Opinions/guesses please

See the front and back high res pics.

Any chance this becomes a PSA 8? I feel the centering sub is a bit vicious.

Opinions please...ty

that card looks to be mis-graded to me. Measuring it precisely may result in a very nice cross-over for you...
    Enjoy your collection!

I am thinking the same thing, ty for the feedback. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything here.
  • I mean, look at this crazy centering....or lack of centering...

    Yikes
  • Is there damage in the top center red section or is that glare?
  • appears to be glare from inter plastic sleeve holder
  • No 8, but the centering could be in a 7.

    << <i>8OC due to t-b centering >>

agreed, but I've seen worse in an 8 holder. Request NQ.

    Thanks,

I think that is at least a 7 all day long. I think it has a chance for an 8.

I agree that the centering grade of 5 may be a bit low.

I see the T/B at about 70/30 - which will fall within the 8 criteria.

So, based on what I see? It could get an 8.

Tho, I will say due to centering - a low end 8.

Best of luck on the cross!

  • There's slight potential for a 9 o/c imo but most likely the 8 o/c is where it would land in most cases

Wow, kinda surprised. I thought for sure everyone on these boards would say it belongs in a psa 3 holder.
    I'd say a 6-7.

Has PSA ever on an in the holder cross awarded a two grade increase on a card? I just can't imagine that happening.

I think you are going to need to try your luck at cracking it and submit it raw. There was a comment indicating it could grade an 8OC and another following it saying ask for no qualifiers. Just remember if you submit with a request for no qualifiers an 8OC will come in lower. Sometimes a PSA 6 and sometimes a PSA 7. I had a card graded 8OC on a sub that I requested no qualifiers and it ended up in a PSA 7 holder.

I see some chipping on the right side and when you look at the reverse scan the left lower corner looks a little soft. Overall it is a pretty solid card it appears.

    Good luck.

  • Definitely crack and submit.

I would not do a cross over. I would DEFINITELY crack out and submit. Think about it.....PSA is NOT going to give it a higher grade with it being in a BGS holder. That would tell the collecting world that their standards are not as tough as BGS.

  • It is not an 8. It will grade a 6 or 7.

7 at a glance. Worth the submission. May get higher on a good day.

I agree with the popular opinion that the card most likely deserves a 7. What it actually gets is another story. As some have already said, you may be wise to crack and submit vs. trying to cross in the holder to avoid the possibility of TPG politicking potentially putting a ceiling on your grade.
