Scanner suggestions for cards

Looking to get a high quality scanner to use for baseball cards for selling on Ebay, posting on here... Anyone have a good one they suggest that is simple to use and provides high quality scans? I hear that the key thing to look for is CCD technology, and I want something simple to use - I hear the stand alone models are the way to go. Thank you in advance for the help.

Canoscan 9000... its what a lot of card sites use to scan images. Not sure if there has been an upgrade or two from my model but I have this one and it's great. CCD, stand alone, oversize... made by Canon.

I have an Epson V30 and it works great. Check out the scans in my set registry (1st Ballot HOFers)

There is a new MK II version of the Canoscan 9000, well regarded for sure.

I have had the Epson Perfection V300 Photo Scanner for about 5(?) years. It scans raw and graded cards very well. However, if you want to scan the shiny new stuff ... not too good.

Thank you for the info and suggestions, and I have been looking at the Epson V550. Looks like it has the same features as the ones stated above. I assume you can scan a card and list it directly to a site like Ebay from the scanner.

I have the Epson as well....While it does a knockout job on PSA cards, for some reason, it makes SGC cards look all trashy (alot of lint in the gasket area, that isn't really there in person). Can't quite figure it out.

I am looking for a scanner that scans refractors correctly. Any ideas?

Bob - thank you very much for the example and that looks great. When you do a scan on your Epson how simple is it to upload to Ebay or on here? I assume it has an email function where you can send directly from the machine via a PDF file? That would be awesome if so. Thank you again to everyone for their help and have a safe evening on New Years!!

i scan directly into PhotoShop and then save as a jpeg. Once its saved you can email it or upload it as desired. I'm sure the scanning software can simply skip PhotoShop and save to disk.

I use an Epson Perfection V700 Photo. It does very well on refractors and other challenging cards and scans negative/positive film. Yes, cold cathode lighting will produce the best results. Below are some examples from cards I have scanned personally to include the reverse of the new PSA holder on the second pair of images. The scanner works wonderfully. The only drawback would be the cost, depending on your budget.

I use a program called GIMP to edit my card images. It is akin to Photoshop and powerful but free, both as in free lunch and as in freedom. Once you have the file the way you like it, you can easily upload to eBay. I like to use Photobucket.com to store my images for posting to forums. Once you have it set up right, you just copy and paste the [IMG] link into your post here and the image shows up. See a previous thread about Photobucket I contributed to here for a how-to or PM me and I can help you with that. I don't use PDF files and don't think other collectors do. Like Bob mentioned, JPG should do you well.
