Poll - What month is the best to sell coins on eBay?

In the Winter people are inside more but with the holidays (and in some States, property taxes due) people are spending money on other things.
In the Spring, there are income taxes - where most people get refunds after loaning money to the government interest free.
In the Summer, people are outside, on vacation and away from their PC's
In the Fall, people have back to school expenses which is second to Xmas in retail sales.

I voted Feb, just far enough after the Holidays for peoples check books to recover. Also trapped indoors here in ND, too cold to want to be outside.

When I sold, the best month was December - Christmas rush, but all other months were fairly equal. My buisness was based on providing high quality images of the certified type coins I had to sell, and low margins, so I did pretty well. But that was before the recent series of fee increases. Now I am not sure that any time would be good to sell on ebay given the mark up required to pay the fees.

I have found that December was very slow in the past. The other months seemed to be about equal.

This has been a decent month as the numerous Ebay Buck promos have moved inventory. Still a shadow of past years.

  • Around major shows but January and February are good. Summer and early fall can be very slow.

January has always been a good month. Another good one is December which can be a good time to retail PF ASE coins (USM packaging) to people giving this to relatives for xmas. I sell many of these every December and get good money.

One December I got an email from a lady in New Jersey: "Do you have any Proof Silver American Eagles without those numbers on the holders and in the government packaging with the pretty blue box and certificate housed in those nice capsules? I want to give a bunch to family." It just so happened I was set up at a show that weekend and another dealer having a bad show accepted my offer on some he had after he was complaining "the people walking the door have no money and nothing worthwhile to sell." I immediately emailed the lady in NG I had some after I had quickly listed them on the bay and she bought 7 of them at my retail price - talk about synchronicity. The rest shortly sold out thereafter.

I think March works best. Christmas will generate some sales but will harm them too. The last gasps of winter keep people inside. Once the weather gets better they want to come out of the house.

When I look at prices realized, the best time was usually a few months ago. image
