This has been up for a while but I contacted the seller a while back and they claimed it is a '100% gauranteed 1983 set in a 82 box'

Not sure why someone would do that but just an fyi in case this ever goes to auction and actually sells.

The wood grain box set was sold through jcpenney for the 1982 set only. i think the 83 factory set came in a plain brown box, not sure, but definitely not in the wood grain box.

You are correct the wood grain box is for 1982 only, although it was sold by a few retailers, including JCP and Sears. The unmarked sealed brown boxes could be a variety(years and sports) of Topps factory sets and were retailed by card dealers who bought factory set cases directly by Topps.
