Counterfeit card purchase or trimmed

Thought I would ask the group if any of you have ever purchased such a card at a card show/shop? Did you have any recourse for a return? Any card show return policy on purchases in effect/implied when you purchase at a show, or is it always all sales final. Have not been burnt yet,to the best of my knowledge, but have any of you and what course of action did you take? At least with Ebay you have that option of a return.

I purchased a Vintage RC for a couple hundred bucks a few months ago from an established local card shop. PSA came back with with a trimmed verdict. I called the card shop and was able to work out a fair return/deal. They're good people.

I purchased a trimmed 1968 Johhny Bench rookie at a show once. As I walked away from the table i looked at it and it did not look right. I bought a common 1968 at another table to compare and it was indeed short by a lot. I went back to the dealer and told hiom it was trimmed and showed him and he asked me "what do you mean by trimmed? I told him it was cut to look better. He asked what I wanrted to do and I said I just wanted my money back which he did. i got lucky there.

I too purchased a trimmed Bench rookie card (and a Steve Carlton rookie to boot) from a popular seller through SCD in the '80's (can't remember who it was). They were among my first PSA submissions at least 10 years later and I was really bummed they came back EOT. By that time, it was way too late to get a refund.

Purchased a fake card at the Raleigh show. I eventually got a replacement from the seller.

I purchased an 84 topps Dan Marino rc at a local card show in my area. Sent it in a batch of cards to BGS (expecting an 8-8.5) came back as "questionable authenticity." I took the card back and the dealer gave me refund (not including grading fees). From the time I bought it to the time I returned it was probably around 4 months. But the guy was cool about it. We even chuckled about it, who the hell would make counterfeit Dan Marino rc's? lol.

I have a 53 Bowman Mantle that I bought at a shop in New Orleans over 20 years ago. I never even thought about it being trimmed until 10 or so years later. I have never sent it in for grading but it measures short. I have a couple other trimmed cards that I bought in my travels around the country.

I think jfkheat wins so far.

In addition to my Bench and Carlton rookies mentioned above, I'm still the proud owner of a beautiful '71 Topps Fergie Jenkins expertly recolored by the late waverly82.

I purchased a 1933 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth from Bill Maestro at a show 20+ years ago. Several years later, I found when I submitted it to PSA that it was trimmed. It was a VG/EX looking card.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

I think anyone who likes raw cards is going to purchase a % of trimmed or altered cards. I never have any problems returning cards bought on Ebay as long as i get the dreaded evid of trim sticker from PSA to the seller. Of course you are out the grading and shipping fees. I have a little stack i would like to put in authentic holders some day. Back in the early nineties at a super bowl card show in Miami I bought what i thought were some really nice 71's (Bench,Ryan,Clemente, other stars.) I'll never forget when i got them back from PSA (no internet checking of grades back then) All of them altered, recolored, trimmed. I was bummed. Seller nowhere to be found
Interested in 60's and 70's psa and raw star and hof cards

When my dad bought me two Gretzky Topps rookies back around 1996ish from a Gibralter show in Michigan one ended up being trimmed when I sent it in to PSA. I remember the guy looking scared when we examined the card. I didn't know anything about trimming back then and was more concerned if it was authentic or not.

Sorry to say, definitely wouldn't grade by PSA. I have sent in cards that appeared fine that were the slightest bit short that were rejected as trimmed. Kept them, looked at them again and again over a couple years and sent them in again, and came back graded 6s and 7s. But this card's top/bottom boarders are quite short.

Still worth around $350-$400 or so though.
