Going back to 1980 for reference sake. Let's keep baseball pitchers out of the discussion.

I will start with Dennis Rodman.

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

    Garry Maddox.

In the immortal words of I believe, Harry Kalas, 2/3 of the Earth is covered by water, the other third was covered by Garry Maddox.

Saw him field a beach ball at Tiger stadium in 1994 or so.

Good friend wanted to see Griffey and all the good seats were gone. We bought the $5 outfields seats figuring that we could watch some defensive action on the part of KG. Only real action in his direction was a beach ball out of the stands.

    He handled it cleanly. image

Gee whiz...I'll stop. There's twelve plus.

    1980 to present, eh...

    Defensemen

    1. Lidstrom
    2. Ray Bourque
    3. Pronger
    4. Larry Robinson
    5. Chelios*

    * probably deserves to be Scott Stevens, but I'm fairly convinced if he played in an era when you couldn't maul and run constant obstruction, he'd be Willie Mitchell if he played under current post-lockout rules.

    Forwards

    1. Datsyuk
    2. Carbonneau
    3. Jere Lehtinen
    4. Brind'Amour
    5. Fedorov or Hossa (Fedorov for peak, Hossa for longevity).
