"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
One thing I notice, the blue lines on the fake don't go all the way across the card. It should run boarder to boarder outside of the bio info. The fake only seems to run from the bio info to the puck. Maybe that'll be something to watch. The shoulder for looks a little less pronounced on the fake as well. But I agree..scary.
I have question about this regarding blue flips. I would not do this, but I am curious as potential blue flip buyer. Say someone bought one of these (or another fake), got it signed and submitted it to PSA/DNA for a blue flip as a Gretzky rookie, assuming the autograph passes would PSA label it as a Gretzky rookie since they're not authenticating the card?
They would *most likely* label it a reprint card. It is still a thought that crosses my mind when buying blue flips and a reason to prefer red flip autos for high value cards!

Every Gretzky I've seen with the blue lines has the line going across the card like you said, but I've seen some first print cards (of other players) where the line doesn't go all the way from side to side.

I've seen a couple Gretzky "Reprint" PSA DNA autos.
So when they say they don't authenticate the card does that just mean as untrimmed vs. trimmed? Because if they're calling out reprints they're tacitly authenticating non-printing cards.
True - but, like any card, they have to put SOMETHING on the flip. If it's a reprint, they put that. I don't know if that entails their full process of authentication or is more of a gut check. I do know that PSA would say that they have NOT authenticated the card itself within a blue flip holder.

Got it. I was hoping this example would flesh out what they mean by authenticating the card for a red flip vs. blue flip. Because if they're really not authenticating blue flips there's would seem to be a lot of room for abuse.
I know this is an old post, but I'm wondering if anyone has seen a fake OPC Gretzky in person with the blue lines (I can't see the images from the original post). ...someone showed me one they have today and I suspect fake...and it has blue lines..

I haven't seen one in person, but this listing is pretty suspect with blue lines. New account, has 2 of these, edges are clearly sanded/scuffed to maybe try and look like opc edges, but the cardstock is unnaturally white. The blue lines are reasonably good except on the left side, the bottom one doesn't look straight.

<< <i>No rough cut is a dead giveaway though. >>
True. However, a lot of 79 OPCs with the skate line have little to no rough cut. Wonder what a smack of sandpaper to an edge would look like.
It saddens me to see counterfeits like this one because they've gone the extra mile to deceive someone.
I hate to say it, but I might buy one just to examine the card stock and overall appearance of the card in hand vs online.
Reprint Card

The color on the front looks off....looks like a xerox.......Bad fake is my vote.

Tons of fakes have blue lines
They should have practiced scuffing up the left side on another card first. They went a little too far on the upper left.
