Never won an REA auction until . . .

Sometimes I just throw in a low bid in an REA auction, figuring that if I win, then great. Won this, Lot #577. Not the best looking 4, but nice centering.

David ... presents nicely for a "4". Granted, the other one in that auction looks nicer, but it also went for $250.00 more. There have only been a handful of "4's" that sold cheaper this entire year. Now sit back and enjoy your new card!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Yep, I'm embarrassed to say the auction was a couple of months ago. I didn't realize I had won the lot until I got the invoice a few days ago. I didn't check after the auction (because I'm always outbid), and I either didn't get an email or overlooked it. I promptly paid, and the card arrived today. I want to add that a day or two after I received the invoice, I received a personal phone call from Robert Lifson reminding me that I had not paid. I didn't take offense (since I hadn't paid), and he seemed like a nice fellow to me.

Doug, I've bought and sold a few of these down through the years. Being a Mantle collector, I felt like there was a hole in my collection since I didn't have one at the time. And, with all the talk about centering, I shot in a bid and won my first REA auction lot. I'd really like a 6 or 7 with this kind of centering.

Funny story david; thanks for sharing that! And no need to be embarrassed that the auction was two months ago (I checked their website and it ended on october 19th to be exactimage); the only reason I mentioned that in my post was because when I saw the title of your thread and then started to read it I thought maybe they added a third auction that ended this weekend that I had somehow missed (although I know that wasnt the case because if they had I wouldve known about it!!)

Once again, nice card for a nice price! (And pay your bills quicker next time!!image)
