Raleigh Show 12/12-14 - Pickups Added

Anyone on here going to the Raleigh show this weekend? I'll probably be there tomorrow (Friday) afternoon and again on Sunday, would love to meet some other members. Never been before but I hear it's a pretty decent show. I'll be looking to pick up some '53 Bowman to work on my set...had pretty good luck with that at the smaller 2-day Raleigh show in October.

I wont planning on going, but Huggins & Scott is going to be there, so I want to drop off some consignments.

Spent about four hours there on Friday just taking one lap around the place, and then another few hours today. There were a ton of vendors, it took me a long time just to get my bearings. There were about 5-6 sellers with pretty good tobacco/prewar stuff, maybe a dozen or so with pretty extensive and really nice 50s/60s collections, and a couple dozen more postwar/modern. I found a couple nice '53 Bowman singles for my raw set:

But the real thrill was picking this up. I'd been thinking about starting an early-century set for a while, but hadn't decided which one to build. This inspired me to do the T205.

I picked up another T205 common with the cash I had leftover.

There were a ton more T205s around, so I'm looking forward to picking up a few more at the next show in January. Seems like they have these every couple months down here.

Very nice pick ups. Best of luck with your new set.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

    Thanks, Doug & Dan!

BTW, when Denny McLain does an inscription, he REALLY does an inscription:

Lol holy sh!t. I've met him twice and he's only written "31-6, 1968." But a great guy with a great looking sig.

I don't know if I would call Denny McLain a "great guy". Anybody who would steal $2.5 million from his employees pension fund would be considered a scumbag by most. Not to mention all his other arrests. Like was mention in the OJ card thread, it wouldn't stop me from collecting his cards, but I wouldn't want to meet him or call him a "great guy".
  • If I was not in Japan right now I would have set up a table at the RDU show!

Despite his criminal history, he has always been outgoing and kind to the people who come out to the events where I've seen him. That's what I meant.

that indeed is an impressive inscription, although I think I'd prefer that on a picture of him in a Tigers uniform (I had totally forgotten he pitched with the Braves in 1972)
