Apparently someone pulled a 97-98 metal pmg green jordan

so apparently what someone on the beckett basketball forums has said someone, somewhere, has pulled a 97-98 planet metal gems green Michael jordan #1/100. To those that aren't familiar with this card/set, they are numbered to 100 with 90 of them being red and only 10 being green. They are very rare and sought after to high end jordan collectors.
Has anyone heard about/know more about this?

Yes. 97-98 skybox metal universe
Ldferg,
I'm not 100% certain but I think the pmg's are only available in hobby boxes, no retail. but either way, metal universe is always a really cool product with very unique base cards and awesome inserts.
NEVER buy unopened that isn't a factory sealed box. Lots of people crack a box, open a few packs, realize they're all bricks, and then try to sell off the remainder of the box on ebay.
<< <i>That's easily a $25k pull, maybe even $50k or more. >>
I guess the owner had it up on ebay and it was at 60k, but was ended early because of a private deal and sent to psa.
You guys probably don't remember, but a bgs 9.5 pmg red jordan sold for 40,000 a few years ago. However, a short while after that, the same card sold for less than 20,000.
I'd love to know how many green and reds are still unopened.
<< <i>Wow, that's a nice hit. What did the guy have to pay for the box (what do they go for)? >>
$300. There is one on bbce for $295 (ldferg if you're reading).

I'll be cracking that baby as soon as it gets here.

It was complete crap.
My inserts were:
All Millenium
Marbury, Kittles, Pippen
Future Champions Tony Battie
Trophy Case Gary Payton
<< <i>I ripped two boxes. There must be terrible odds of pulling anything but a common.

Yeah, $300+ for a $2 Tim Duncan RC, a handful of stars and semi-stars and a few worthless inserts seems like it would hurt. Those PMGs are insanely tough pulls.
<< <i>If you pulled a card like that and wanted to slab it, would you trust any shipping option? I think I might hop on a plane to Anaheim and take it to PSA myself. >>
For a 5 figure payday, the plane trip to PSA OR BGS would be a very cheap investment, imo.

Oh, absolutely. No doubt I would be its personal escort.
<< <i>What box are these from? I think I may want to add an unopened one to me personal collection. Can someone provide a link to one for sale? >>
None available.
Box
BBCX will be selling it at some point this year and the expectation is the card will bring north of six figures. Amazing.

Metal Championship boxes have these PMGs in them:

The Red and Green PMGs are found in Metal Universe boxes.
Metal Universe
Hope this helps anyone still looking at possibly breaking any of these boxes chasing a PMG.

Thanks for the correction. I apologize if I steered anyone in the wrong direction. Not my intention.
nevermind, seems I was right all along. lol
<< <i>Thats a healthy price on that box!!!! >>
I'll kick someone swiftly in the nuts for $800 if they want. lol
I can think of a lot of other $100,000 cards that would interest me over this.
<< <i>Can you someone enlighten me why 1 1997 card of Jordan is so valuable? I think im missing something here.

1990s product which had parallels of every card. 100 parallels with first ten green and rest red and serial numbered. The chances of pulling a red were not good and of course, chances are it would be a scrub if you did. Jordan is the key card and I seem to recall an overseas collector hoarding six or so greens. In the last few years, 1990s inserts have gained popularity.

I would think that a 1 of 1 Jordan insert would be the most valuable Jordan card. I don't know if there are any 1 of 1's, but making these cards rare because of a small print run just doesn't make me want any of these modern cards at all (other than selling it and buying vintage). Just hard to understand how these cards can be so much. The fact that there are players with 10+ rookie cards in one year just makes me appreciate vintage and pre-war much more than anything modern.

I'm actually a jordan collector but I tend to agree with you. I especially don't understand refractors, I just don't get em. It's the same card as the base version except it has a shiny reflective coating on the surface. And people go nuts over them and pay large amounts.
At least with this pmg green card it's actually cool looking (imo).
But I would also rather have mid or high grade vintage rookies.

I agree with both of you completely. The refractors have always baffled me with their popularity and value. Taking a card and making it shiny and calling it a super rare short print just doesn't appeal to me. But those refractors keep going nuts

Collector you have a lot of choices or if you collect something because it's old that's on you.

I'm sorry I offended you.
Refractors seem very gimmicky to me, which is why I tend to stay away from them (also the price). But of course at the end of the day I do understand that people collect all sorts of different stuff.
<< <i>It's hypocritical for any card collector to look down upon purchases made by others. To most of society it is a waste of money to spend $100 on a sports card. Just like you would defend your purchases for whatever you collect, so would the guy that's willing to plunk down $100k on a rare Jordan. You don't have to understand it, but you have to accept that's what the card is worth right now because that's what somebody is willing to pay right now. I think we would all agree that it's a shaky investment at best, but maybe $100k means nothing to the guy buying it. >>
Yeah, i get what you are saying and that is probably the major crux of it, but as a card collector, powerseller of cards, it just kind of blows my mind that an insert card of Jordan 14th season would be that much in demand. Jordan was obviously a great player, maybe the best, although since I am a Celtic fan, I would say that Bill's 11 rings in 13 years is pretty astonishing, but that would be more than a BGS 10 of the 1984 card.

You didn't offend me and I would say refractors are not a gimmick they have been a part of card collecting for 22 years.
