Bought 6 packs of 1984 Topps baseball on ebay, pics

And they came today, 3rd pack in I hit what I was looking for. Donny! As well as the other 3 you see. I opened the rest but didn't get another Mattingly.

Who says buying unopened on eBay is bad. I'm psyched. I've never pulled a Donny rookie from a pack ever. I've only just recently been dabbling in a few 84 Topps packs at a time.

Good for you Pete. Seems like you had a fun experience - that's what collecting is all about!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • Thank you, yeah I love it. Even if it's not a high dollar card, as a kid I never pulled one from a pack. Hell I never even owned one as a kid. It was way too expensive for me. It went right into a top loader. It's a bit off centered so no use sending it in. I'll be keeping it for a long time. Time to move to 1985 Topps to pull some of those rookies.

Edited. I want to pull a McGwire USA card from the 85 topps

Congrats Pete! I know exactly how you feel. I'm a huge Donnie baseball fan and still buy 84 packs from time to time hitting that card. As many 84 Donruss packs as I've bought over the years though I've still never hit that one. Still trying though! Congrats!!!!

  • Thanks, I do want to try a few donruss packs. Now that was def a card I could not afford as a kid (I do have one now though, a PSA 9). It was a great feeling pulling the Topps rookie.

A couple of summers ago, I got a bunch of rack packs of 84 and 85 really cheap at a flea market. I had lived in Spain during those years and never opened any before. Pulling the Mattinglys, Clemens, McGwires and Pucketts after all those years really was a thrill even though they're not worth anything nowadays

    Congrats on the pull

Awesome pull! There is nothing like pulling out a rookie out of a pack from our childhoods! I still buy 83 topps packs to try to pull a sandberg rookie! :-)

  • I agree. It's not the dollar amount. It's the thrill of actually pulling the card from the pack. It's too bad I as like many others started collecting as a kid roughly around the late 80s so I never got the chance to pull the star cards as a kid. I'm just doing it now instead lol

Nice pull! I just pulled my first 85 McGwire from a pack yesterday. I know what you mean about the thrill.
  • Nice, that's what I want to do. I have a few packs of 85 Topps coming and I just ordered 4 packs of 84 donruss. Crossing my fingers. I'll post if I hit anything good, probably next week sometime when they arrive

One of my favorite sets as far as design!! Really wish the photography was sharper like in 83. Would have made it a great set, to many blurry/fuzzy images!!
