1981 Donruss Baseball Wax Box Break- Strange

Earlier this evening I had the opportunity to break an '81 Donruss wax box (36 packs), which turned out to be one of the wildest experiences I've had opening cards.

36 packs X 18 cards/pack = 648 cards, for which ONLY 74 players ended up appearing. Of these 74, who would guess that the one with the most duplicates turns out to be Tim Raines. How many? 27.

I scanned in 26 of the 27, which you see below. I can only hope for a few PSA 10's, what do you guys think? What a crazy break!

1981 Donruss is notorious for horrible collation. Nothing like Topps in that regard. At least you got 27 Tim Raines instead of 27 Rob Wilfongs, LOL..

When I go to the U.S. for vacation next month, I think I have 2-3 wax boxes of 81 Donruss to break. Hopefully I get the same luck as you.

    Haha

Rob Wilfong is not going to be happy with you Tim lol!

1981 Donruss brings back some nice memories. It was my favorite set as a kid. I remember saving my hard earned grass cutting money to buy the complete set through the mail.

Donruss was bad throughout the 80s based on the cards I have but that has to be some sort of record. I don't even think I got more than 10 of the same card in a fleer bk box and that set is 1/4 the size.

That's totally how it was in '81. Especially the early runs. Tons of errors and tons of duplicates.

I bought a pack off ebay a couple of years back. Half of the cards were ruined by the gum. They were stuck together.

    You could make it Rain(es).

That's bananas. Oddly enough, despite all the flaws with 81 Donruss, the Raines isn't that difficult of a card in 10 so I would imagine you've got a handful or so in your group.

Must be something with Donruss. I opened a box of 85 Leaf once and pulled 4 Clemens, 4 Pucketts, and a fifth Clemens that was showing on the back of a pack that I kept sealed. It was quite a fun break. Every 4 packs I pulled a Clemens or a Puckett.

Good luck with your submissions ... but choose wisely, as you will be lucky to break out even with a "9".

    The Raines in a 9 is about a $10 card and about $55 as a 10.
