1955 Koufax...

Bussineau Auctions has an SGC-96 1955 Sandy Koufax Rookie...with NO bids and only a couple days left to bid. Is the opening bid too high? Anyone else surprised that...as of now it has not sold?

I remember an SGC-96 1955 Koufax Rookie on eBay hitting $20000+ earlier this year...but not meeting the reserve. It looks like a mint card (described as stunning). If this card were in an PSA holder...would there be bids? Buy the card...not the holder...right? PSA copies in a 9 have sold for $40000+. Any comments?

Here is my thinking lately. With auction houses not being on Ebay they only hit a certain % of potential bidders/customers which limits them. Add in hammer fees and such and it is surprising that this does not happen more often. With iconic cards like T206 cards(Wagner, Magee, Plank), 52 Mantle, Cracker Jacks... word of mouth will be enough to advertise big cards. PWCC and Probstein hit a lot more folks versus MLI, Mile High, Greg... just because of the Ebay factor. Add in the SGC holder and where it flip grade wise to PSA and it creates very little bidding. Maybe an opener plus 1-2 bids at the end.

Yes, buy the card not the holder. I haven't seen the card and it may in fact be stunning. But for a potentially high dollar card like this wouldn't the seller including the auction house recognize the fact that a PSA 9 would command thousands in premium to a SGC 96 and attempt a cross before listing? I think for a card like that the assumption would be that there was a failed review at some point in a PSA cross. Not saying that it couldn't cross (like I said I haven't seen it), but if you are attaching a PSA 9 premium to the card you are making a bet on a cross that may or may not be successful.
