Paypal Scam Email - Looks legit

Just got a paypal email saying there is something wrong with my account. I went to Paypal and everything was fine (I did change my password). Usually these scams are obvious but this email is the best one I've seen yet. It looks legit with no spelling or grammar errors.

Did it call out your name? Any email if this kind will have your first and last name if they are legit.

  • Also, what did it ask you to do? Did it want you to click a link to "fix" your account?

Yes it included my name and asked me to click a link to fix the problem. They need to know the info I used to set up my account.

This is the best Paypal phishing email I've seen.

Here is the top of it -

Log in to your PayPal account as soon as possible

    Dear XXXXXX,
Recently, there's been activity in your PayPal account that seems unusual compared to your normal account activities. Please log in to PayPal to confirm your identity. To help protect your account, no one can send money or withdraw money. In addition, no one can close your account, send refunds, remove any bank accounts, or remove credit cards.
    ---------------------

Instead of the XXXXX, it was my name.

I have an email I use only for merchant email and loyalty programs. In the last week, I have gotten several phishing emails with my name in them from merchants I use, with links to "check order status" or something similar.
The emails were fairly well done, though they didn't bother to properly spoof the sender in the full header.
I'm thinking that cybercriminals have hacked a lot more companies' systems than we know about.
