Chuck Ealey - The best College Quarterback you never heard of.

I was just playing around on the Internet and came across an article on Chuck Ealey. I have to be honest ... I never heard of him. He was the quarterback for the University of Toledo from 1969 thru 1971 ... and went 35-0. Due to specific qualifications for the College HOF, he is not eligible. What a shame. Google his name. It will be worth the read.

Ealey played a few years in the CFL; in 1972 he was the CFL's Outstanding Rookie of the Year. As far as I know, he never appeared on a regular issue card, but he did appear on this 1972 O-Pee-Chee sticker insert.

If he had gone to Michigan or Ohio State and had close to that success, I'm sure we would have heard of him...

Probably true, but what a shame that he is not in the College HOF (I know he does not qualify).

Being from the Toledo area and an alum, I had to smile when I saw this post. One of the intriguing things is that he was a black QB in an era where the NFL didn't have black QBs. He was overshadowed in this area due to the success of Ohio State and Michigan during that time period. Nice guy and a good business man these days.

Chuck was also known for his ability to levitate while throwing passes. Gave him an advantage to see over taller linemen.

    Hall of Fame Criteria:

"FIRST AND FOREMOST, A PLAYER MUST HAVE RECEIVED FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICA RECOGNITION BY A SELECTOR RECOGNIZED BY THE NCAA AND UTILIZED TO COMPRISE THEIR CONSENSUS ALL-AMERICA TEAMS."

Although in Ealey's senior season he was named First Team All-American by Football News, Second Team All-American by the United Press International, and Third Team All-American by the Associated Press, Football News was NOT recognized by the NCAA.
