When you joined these forums, hopefully you explored the available settings for usage. When you use the customize button just below the Navigation function box, one of the questions posed for setting viewing parameters is:
How many topics do you want listed when you enter a category? The choice given is 1 to 100. In a practical sense, it is difficult to review 100 topics on page 1 of any category without encountering some stale topics (especially in the BST forum). I have my preference set to 50 topics per page, which seems to keep a fair percentage of fresh topics, or posts, on page 1 at any given time. For those who may have their setting at a lesser number of topics per page, they may have the perception that their posts are falling back in the queue much quicker than they actually are. Obviously the number of active participants at any particular time can affect how rapidly a post falls back in the queue regardless of personal settings; I'm going to suggest from length of steady participation here that the 50 posts per page setting seems to be a fair way to judge how often an active post should be bumped to page 1. And for those who seem to think that multiple active For Sale posts on page one of the BST is O.K. or "status quo", you need to always remember that this is a SHARED privilege. This is not your personal playground. Competition is great, but there is a line that should not be crossed here. Rant over.

What is not appreciated, for what I have seen so far, is an auction-style listing.
Taking offers or best offer listing are common.
The rule are not written anywhere. Common sense is usually what you need.
The only rule that was written by the mod, IIRC, is "one bump per day".
Search it out and it should still be easy to find.
