<< <i>Dimitri Young shouldn't qualify as a pedigree. That name should apply only to finds, not pieced together collections. >>
+1, yeah I'm talking about old school collectors who have either passed and their collections are now floating out there or they sold their stuff. Cards that are graded with the collectors name on the slab kinda stuff...like Lionel Carter with SGC.
Charlie Conlon's singles were pedigreed before the REA auction if I'm not mistaken, don't have my catalog handy at the moment to double check. Also not sure, but I believe the higher grade Skydash singles were pedigreed.

no logic there guys. lionel carter surely didn't stumble upon his cards at a garage sale, neither did olddc.
you guys are mixing "finds" and "pedigrees". a pedigree is documentation showing the previous originations of a good. if it says dmitri young on the flip, then it's pedigreed, same w/ carters and olddc.
now if the original question was in regards to "finds", well neither dmitri, olddc or carter's for that fact would qualify. only the swamp.
apples and oranges.
the dmitri collection is pedigreed. plain and simple.

This is what CGC, the comic book certification company, thinks about it:
taking definitions from a comic book site vs websters. got it. but for arguments sake...
quoted from your guys' comic book website:
"• The collection must be original owner. This means that the books must have been bought off the newsstand as they came out. For example, a collector cannot buy a high-grade run of 1940s comics from various sources and expect it to be considered a pedigree. The original owner need not currently own the comics for the collection to be considered for pedigree status."
taken from lionel carter write up/his own words:
“We’d connect and swap cards through the mail,” said Carter. “I’d hear about another guy from one of the collectors I knew, write him a letter, send him a list of what I had and what I needed and we’d see if we could work out a trade.” here's the link for verification
notice the "newsstand" line from the comic book site and notice the "swap cards through the mail" from the lionel carter write up. lionel carter didn't obtain all of his cards or even most of them for that fact from the newsstand/dime store.
clearly not pedigreed by your own rule/site/admission
next rebuttal?
hate to drive this nail home, but I am in pharmaceuticals and have an entire department dedicated to pedigrees which protects the supply chain, traces each transaction from manufacturer to wholesaler to end-user. it's there for the publics safety and keeps the shady characters out of the loop. this one hits close to home, which is kinda why I am adamant on this one.
So...this post wasn't to start an argument over definitions. This is one of the frustrating things about this forum...can we stay on task here with the original post?
I'm looking for old school collectors, like Lionel Carter, who collecting, died or sold off their collection that you can find their cards graded with their name on the label. Any takers? These cards would be vintage as well.
we're good. no one's losing sleep over it. at least I hope not. and while I use the word "argument" I assume neither one of us mean any ill-will, right? it's a discussion board, that's all.

just a friendly discussion.

No personal beef dude. I'm certainly not losing sleep over stuff on here. I do get tired of posting things and having people not actually answering the question or going on some rant about something that has nothing to do with the OP or using threads that I post as personal conversation grounds to talk about stuff that's not relevant to the OP. That's all.
Agreed...quid pro quo doctor...with some fava beans and a nice chianti...

I just picked up some of his boxing singles that were pedigreed through SGC.

Rather ironic that the only known baseball cards of Bob Feller not autographed by Bob Feller were once owned by Bob Feller.
