Wow. I hope it's a hacked account and the real owner didn't need just need some quick cash to payoff a hardship.

The fuzzy back scan, that doesn't match the front scan quality, says it all on that one. This card was discussed at length at Net54 when it listed. There's simply no stealing that card at a bargain price in 2014 and beyond; to think otherwise makes one vulnerable.

something has gone terribly wrong here. i hope there's a reasonable explanation. we're looking at a seller who maintained a sterling reputation for quite awhile. recent events, including some postings about them here, indicate there's a problem.

Dave, as someone who's known you as a fellow dealer and collector, for what it's worth, i hope YOU are ok and this can be explained.

Did the buyer scam the seller? Buyer has private feedback.

    What exactly is the scam?

Seller lifted the scan from a REA auction. Never had it.

Anything could have happened...but it's odd that he had hundreds of cards listed before the mantle was listed but when the Mantle was listed it was the only listing. And the images are higher resolution on all his other auctions.

Maybe he decided that he was going to end his card selling business with a bang and try to rip someone off after he settled all of his prior transactions? Almost all his previous auctions were listed auction-style but the Mantle was listed with a buy-it-now that was sure to sell quickly.

Or maybe he took a break from selling and someone got access to his account? And tried to run a quick scam?

But just goes to show...gotta be careful out there.

There was thread on here recently about one of the more reputable eBay sellers who had suddenly stopped shipping packages. It was later revealed the man had died. I can't find that thread, but that seller wasn't Apple, was it?

Looks like whoever sold this Mantle lifted the picture from REA's website, therefore it was probably a scam from the start and not someone who passed away.

Dan, that was Klinger. There was another thread about apple though that was resolved.
