Consigners on eBay

How many of you have seen items you listed with the major consigners on eBay resurface months later (the exact items) by the same consigner? Do these eBay consigner bid on your items, win them and then resell at a later time?

  • I'm fairly certain they do. It has even been spoken about in the past how they will somehow end up reselling graded and/or raw cards that they previously sold for a consignee, that have been miraculously re-graded or graded to higher grades. When profit is involved, never underestimate anyone.

It also could be non-paying bidders. They eat the loss on those if I'm not mistaken? So surely they would relist, as the card/cards are now their property.

A non paying bidder on a consignment item simply means that the card will be returned to the owner or listed again. No sale, no commission, no transaction.
  • I don't know... Isn't that schilling? If a seller bids on an item they are auctioning either they win or bid up the price. Google "bill mastro shill bidding" for at least one case where the authorities took that kind of thing seriously....

From my experience, when my eBay search shows a card coming back up, I contact the seller and they always say it's a return or non-pay. A few times I was offered the card as the under bidder, but I never take it thinking I must've overbid...... In those cases I've lost the new auction too, but I kind of prefer that over feeling like I might of been taken.

It is shilling if the owner or his "buddy) bids it up and then fails to pay only to artificially inflate the price. It happens all too frequently with no repercussions. I suspect why you see consigned items repeatedly auctioned is that the owner/buddy/anyone with no intent to actual purchase the card shill bids the card up and they are the ones left with the winning bid. Perhaps the consignment operations makes them pay for it and collects their fees only to relist it again but I truly believe no payment is made, the transaction is cancelled (non paying bidder), and the card is back out there trying to capture the next sucker.
