I'd be curious if he's looking for local help.

<< <i>Merry Christmas, CA buyers. >>
Woo Hoo! Thank you Santa!
I always pass on their auctions, even though they regularly have listings that interest me. The way I see it, if I bid high enough to win, then I'm already at the value of the item. Add 9% and I'm getting ripped off.

+1
I always pass. To bad they have some nice stuff. Can't wait for them to move.

I have noticed there is quite a bit of activity from CA in the card world. The cost savings will be passed onto the other buyers.
Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
While being a Californian has not stopped me from buying from Brent, I am more cautious about bidding on the higher ticket items. I lost an item recently that was already over VCP and I didn't want to have to then pay the extra 7.5%. It kept me from putting in that extra bid to top the 2K price tag.

This is quite the intelligent observation.
I hadn't considered this at all when I received the email, but it is entirely true.
This news isn't so good for non-Californians especially Oregonians.
I passed on a 59 Mantle recently when it dawned on me right before I was going to bid that the sales tax would be added.

Does he have employees? Or is this an independent operation?

number one rule in golf: use the rules to your advantage.
come on, i know you're out there.
<< <i>i'm curious as to why so many people passed on stuff that lived in cali. don't get me wrong, I fully and I mean fully understand the sales tax implications...however it's not like they only know people in cali or that the state is some long lost island out in the middle of the pacific. send the damn thing to aunt flo in az. have her send it to you. or better yet, what's the cost of a resale cert in cali? a lil thing like sales tax would never have stopped me....

Not all of us have the hook-ups out of state that they would trust with a high dollar card. I do not have family out of state that I would trust with a 2K+ card.
Getting a resale cert in California for the purpose for avoiding paying tax is a misdemeanor. Each offense is punishable by a fine of $1,000 to $5,000 or imprisonment for up to one year in the county jail, or both.
Some of your "rules" are not legal.

Begsu, you broke 2 laws in one post. If you've ever been audited by the SBof E (and if you have a resale license you will get audited at some point) they go thru everything with a fine tooth comb. It's sales and USE tax, so even if you buy it out of state you still owe tax on it- I got caught that way and had to pay back tax and penalties and interest on camera equipment bought from NY. Sending it to aunt flo is fraud, and they will really throw the book at you- much worse than the IRS.
Having a resale license will make you a target of an audit, but if the seller has one and they see your pay pal address in CA but a shipping address in another state you will get a call, and a visit.
In regards to PWCC, moving to Oregon means that CA buyers have more buying power than when he lived in CA, so you've just greatly increased your competition in bidding.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

<< <i>I'm not the consignor (or friends with them), but I'm kind of curious to see how high the Ruth rookie will go: Link. Apologies for outing the auction if anyone was planning on bidding on it, but I think it's already out of the price range for most of us. >>
Not to worry. There is no way that card would go unnoticed on EBAY.
<< <i>All of the new listings from PWCC look like 10 day auctions. Are they changing their format from 7 days to 10 days? >>
Appears that way. I have a few goodies in #1 and had no clue. A pleasant surprise.
He also has a revamped webby.

That Ruth is nice but one or our board members has a really sweet one with great centering that I remember seeing a while back.
<< <i>New format looks good, and curious to see how a few lots go. I have been playing around with a new scanner as well as using photos for some cards I am going to be selling soon - either private sale or possibly a few with PWCC. One thing I notice with the photos versus the scans is the colors are much brighter with the photos. Also, on the scanner I don't like the black background - do you guys put a black piece of cloth or paper when scanning or just leave the lid up?

You can achieve the black background with having the room pitch black and the lid from the scanner open.

Thank you for the tip and I will try that. Also, do you save your scans as a JPEG or a PDF? Does it make a difference?
