Just bumped into my Cousin. He "flips" houses, AND....

ambro51ambro51 Posts: 13,941 ✭✭✭✭✭
He told me last week his team was re-doing a house in Pleasantville NJ and in the back of a closet found two shoeboxes full of pennies. Rolls. The bank wouldn't take them because some rolls were coming apart. He took them to the coinstar machine. $80.00 worth of pennies. He kept a few. Red Uncirculated. 1946, 1949 and 1950. The only ones he kept....he said they all looked "new"!

He should know better having you in the family. Or perhaps you just haven't taught him well enough... image

    Ouch.

Not everyone who knows me is aware that I collect coins, but my family sure does. Too bad he did't give you a holler first. Hopefully next time.

hmmm, this one says` 1914 and has a D below the date, hmm, its not shiny so, must not be worth anything, right?
too bad there isn't an intelligent coin star that reads dates and kicks those out into a special return for the uninformed
    user....bwahahahaa , ya right. lol

This guy makes so much money pennies are just "pennies".

well, that's the answer right there
    doesn't know, doesn't care.
    lol
anyway, some collector someday will spot what, if anything, he dumped back into circulation and grin ear to ear.

I would think most people who do not collect coins would tend to overvalue coins like this, not dismiss them into a Coinstar machine for .9¢ each.

There were, but they looked damaged as it was hard to read the year or letters on the front as they looked blurry. So, those were the first ones put in the coinstar machine.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I asked the CEO of CoinStar once if I could be their numismatist and go through coins.

Once he explained that the coins are moved in large bins by forklifts at Brinks, I lost all interest. image

    +1.

He saw rolls and figured they weren't rare. IF there had only been 3-5 coins in the box, instead of rolls, I bet he would've had them examined more closely.
