This buffalo nickel looks totally fake to me....

crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,071 ✭✭✭✭✭
I just ran across it on e-Bay and it's completely fake. I don't think the seller even knows it's a fake, but then maybe he does. Check it out.....Maybe someone can hook me up with a link for this post. Thanks

  • I agree. Design looks a bit mushy, and the fields are too proof-like.

At least the seller has a reserve.

Both are bogus. The '24-S will probably fool a few bidders. It's too bad ebay will do nothing about this stuff.

eBay won't do anything? I thought it was eBay's policy not to allow altered and/or counterfeit coins on their site?
Has there been a shift or change in policy?

The pictures are sooooo bad that you can only assume that is is a fake and being marketing to those who will not know the difference. But this begs the question.....why would you buy this die variety in any state RAW???????

No action has been taken on the numerous obvious counterfeits I've reported. If you know of a way to get something done about this stuff please let me know how.

Seller said he had them looked at by a coin dealer in Calgary.......

    Might just be the problem!

    Both have been delisted.

I think the seller was thinking it would sell for a large number. I reported this ridiculous nickel before I posted it here. I think with all of the reports it put more pressure than the seller could handle. Or, e-Bay ended it. Either way I'm glad to see it gone.

Obvious fake. Not even a real Buffalo Nickel.

There a few ebeyers who have sold a number of the Chinese fakes that were sold on ebay prior to 2012 which did not have the word COPY on the coin as supposed to.
I just jumped over to ebay and found two fakes, auction number are
    221608511456
    and
    121494698084.
On any given day there is at least one bad 37-d 3 ledger on ebay. I have informed some of the sellers that there "coin" was a con, and some were grateful and took down
the others while other sellers were abusive. Chasing down all the fake 37-d three legs is like trying to track down and apprehend illegal aliens!
