Mr.nearmint Nice job on the Unitas BVG 7. I hope to have one to share in the next couple of days. Bought a raw Reggie Jackson rookie and hopes it comes back at least a 7 and would be thrilled with 7.5.
Well, it's not a recent story but I love telling it: Back about 7 yrs ago, I found a 1966 Koufax described as a Topps that was an OPC in an ebay auction. It looked pretty clean. I was very surprised to win it at about $48. I sent it in an got back an 8, at the time it was a pop of 3. Stuck it right back on ebay hoping for at least $1000. I guess a couple of big hitters really wanted that card because it sold for $4150. Now, or the last time I looked, it has a pop of 8 and the last one I saw sold for a little over $1000. So in that case, timing was everything. To this day I always check the back of any nice looking 1966 Koufax auction, but have never found one since!

I think this one is the the winner, if were keeping score.
Nice job! I know it's not always about the money but I enjoy the hobby even more when I get a good deal on something.
It's not a card per say, but I bought a raw 1991 Stadium Club pack off ebay that had Jeff Bagwell showing. It looked great in the pictures. They guy packed it up nice enough and when it arrived I thought "wow this looks great!" Decided to send it off with some other packs to get graded. Turns out I was right. Is it worth a lot? Na. But's I like Bagwell so it's a fun piece
I thought I had a few but they turned out to be bogus .... I've opened more cases about fake cards/empty packages/no packages in the last few months then I can ever remember. Economy must be getting bad.
It's not raw, but I just received this Clemente from ebay, and I can't find anything wrong with it except for a slightly touched bottom right corner. Centering is almost PERFECT.
Kiss me once, shame on you. Kiss me twice.....let's party.

That card looks like a PSA 7 all day long to me.

1972 Stargell IA came back a 10. Sold it for $1600. I offered it to Larry Mayer as he needed a 10, but he would not go more than $750 or so. I also bought a dead centered 72 Aaron IA that was an 8. I'm keeping that one.

Just popped this one today, great deal on a raw ebay pickup. I'll take an 8 for now, but actually thought it had a great shot at 8.5 or 9 since it seems stronger than the other 8's I've seen listed:
NEAR MINT-MINT 8 1935 J.A. Pattreiouex Sporting Events & Stars 56 Joe Louis
Raw Single: 1981 Red Rooster Gretzky - Long hair - came back a PSA 9.
Sets bought where I had singles graded: 1983 Frtisch Vidalia Set where the Kirby Puckett came back a 9 1983 Canadian National Juniors set where both Mario Lemieux and the Steve Yzerman came back 9's. 1986 West Palm Beach Expos - Randy Johnson came back PSA 10
Well, I know I got very lucky on this one. Considering the Buy It Now price and the condition of the card, this one was obviously looked at as fake or altered by many, including myself at first. But I ended up with a PSA 7 on my 1955 Bowman Mantle

Bought a raw 1957 topps John Unitus from a card shop for a very good price, it graded a bvg 7.
your intentions are well founded i'm sure, but don't count on too many replies with disclosures.
but don't get me wrong...there's been alotta head scratchers that have come back n6 that measure correctly.
In June I bought this pair raw for $99 apiece shipped from Japan.
So far they are both the highest graded copes and Pop 1's.
These were excellent additions to my collection.

Very kind of you Mark - thanx.
The scratches you see are in the 12 yr old scanner.
