Kent Tekulve - was there anyone more cool in the 80s?

I just saw a story that Kent Tekulve just had and is now recovering from heart transplant surgery. So I went on ebay just to look at some pics. Was there anyone cooler with his pitching style and those glasses? Hope he has 100% recovery. Get well, Kent!

Didn't know about the surgery. Hope his body accepts the new heart. In my prayers.

However, I think THIS guy will argue about the coolest glasses worn while pitching:

A few years ago I sat in a suite at PNC Park and the Pirates had Teke visit each one to sign autographs & schmoze with the fans. I told him I was an Orioles fan and never "forgave" him for what they did in the '79 World Series. He told me what motivated them was that prior to Game 6 with the Orioles up 3 games to 2, the front page of The Baltimore Sun had the championship parade route on the front page & that lit a fire under them.

    I wish him well too!

I did not see this. Thanks for letting us know. He went to high school and grew up on the same street as my mom.

his 84 topps card, especially the headshot always stood out in my mind, similar to the 84 fleer glenn hubbard card.

both guys cool as the breeze.

My favorite non-Tiger as a kid. Had the hat. Used packs of Big League Chew to imitate the tobacco cheek. Spent hours in the backyard copying the pitching motion. Loved watching him play!

As a Pirate fan growing up near Pittsburgh in the 1970s, Teke is awesome! My best memory of Teke: My parents used to take me to one Pirate game a year on my birthday. After the game, I'd wait in the parking lot near the player exit and wait for autographs. One year, Teke was there signing by his vehicle. What I remember most is that, while most players were driving Mercedes and BMWs, Teke was driving a mini-van and had a McD's cup in the holder next to the driver seat. As I would have expected, Teke was just a real down-to-earth guy. Glad he's recovering well.

Saw him walking down the street of a busy Wisconsin resort town a few years ago and had to do a double take. He still looked like Jimmy Mac but he was missing a good deal of teeth. He just didnt look right without teeth. Sorry to see him and others suffering the effects of damage the game of football does to their body.
