Crack and submit or review?

I picked up this card. In hand, I think this card has a good chance to cross at a 9. L/R centering appears to be the weakest quality of the card but I still think it easily falls within 9 guidelines. Do I have a better chance at getting the best grade having it reviewed in the case or cracking and submitting raw? Or is there no difference? Curious to hear some opinions.

crapshoot. factor in a submit, resubmit and shipping back and forth a time or two.

personally, i'd sell and just buy a good nine if that's where you're headed.

seems like you can grab a solid one around $100...

if ya bought bc ya grabbed it a decent price and just to resale, well...diff story I guess.

not sure how it looks in hand but looking at the left corners and top right I have to say your 9 holder should never be cracked
because I don't see it getting back in another one.

Bottom right corner looks like there is a touch of white on it?? Doubt you will get a 9 from PSA.

I agree with other posters - for what you could pick up a PSA 9 for, it doesn't seem like it's worth the trouble of cost and shipping to resubmit. If you crack it, it's a gamble that it will make it into a PSA 9 slab. I'd sell the SGC off and put that towards one that's already a PSA 9.
  • This card will never 10. Likely 9, PSA won't cross though. You would be forced to crack. Can you afford the loss?

Crack and re-sub to PSA and it will likely come back EOT and you lose your 96.

I cracked an 88 Fleer Stockton rookie that was SGC 96 and subbed it with PSA and it came back a PSA 9. Might be worth a shot, but I would crack it first. Here is my Stockton:

Just had that happen to me. Beautiful 1959 Frank Robinson BVG 9 ( corners 9 centering 9.5 edges 9.0 surface 9.5). Sent it for a review. Came back evidence of trimming. How often does that happen? Not to hijack the thread but I've never heard of that.

BVG = Regular occurrence. The company is despicable. I would personally urge you to never touch a BVG card again. SGC and PSA are relatively equal in terms of how 'tight' they are. PSA is superior price-wise on certain issues, while SGC is superior price-wise on mostly pre-war and earlier issues. Each has their cult following.

Sure it wasn't BGS? I've never seen subgrades on a BVG.

Yeah I'm finding that out. I have a really nice BVG 59 Mays that i'm afraid to send in for review.
