NEWP: 1822-27 Anhalt Bernburg full brockage error 1/24 Thaler

Excited about this fun newp error, ex Fred Weinberg ex Karl Stephens. I have long wanted a Bernburg bear, and this one has double the bear action!

A gem proof Thaler is on my long-term want list. This will keep me satisfied in the meantime.

PCGS says "first strike" … how can they tell?

Slab says AU deets, but it looks much better than other AU examples I found. The obvious downside is the scratches on the brockage face.

Very cool, I like the Anhalt bears too and I'm working on putting together a complete set, but none of them are as neat as that full brockage.

Love the toning on that 1852 looks like a warm sunny day in Bernburg

If you ever find a cameo proof, be sure to post it! That 1861 is really close!!!

Yeah it gave me pause. More than once. But then I figured, 192 years! Stuff happens. If it weren't an error I wouldn't have bought it. But the chances of finding another error in this type ... so I put my money down.

On something that cool and that old, a few scratches definitely need not be a deal breaker.

Any idea why/how PCGS labelled it a "first strike?" I don't understand how they could discern this. I have other brockages that are not "first strike" so it must not be related to the error.

I've always loved those bear designs. I had an 1861 in a PCGS MS64 holder at one time. It had lovely prooflike surfaces and lots of flash.

Now all I have is a dinky little jewelry piece.

I've often wondered how in the heck jewelry artisans are able to cut out these details so finely. It's one thing to do in photoshop, entirely different in real life. Any clue? Hot knife? Mini blow torch? Laser?
