Resealed Boxes and Packs

A few weeks ago I bought an "unopened" box from an Ebay seller that I suspected was selling resealed boxes and packs. I figured I would find out for myself if he was. Before I sent the box to BBCE I told another member here that I was concerned that the box was bad. Here is the email I received from Steve at BBCE concerning the box. "James, Have all your boxes done. 11 of them are good. 1 of them is bad. Someone actually went through and re-sealed the whole box of 1981 Topps baseball wax (believe it or not!)." I sent the box back to the seller and received a refund this morning. I also received this message from the seller. "James, I am submitting the refund now. I am not sure the process your grading service uses, but to let you know the condition of the box when it came in. 8 of the packs had been opened as the flaps did not even get put back correctly, some had been placed upside down and backwards, 19 had the seal pulled back. Whether this box had been opened and resealed I have no idea but if the service being provided requires them to open the packs and lift the flap to investigate and would then seal it as if it were unopened I would certainly be questioning that." I have not responded to the message and probably won't. This seller sells quite a few loose packs and full boxes. For now I won't post the seller's user name but anyone wanting to know can PM me.

I have found that most resealers respond defensively in situations like that to redirect the focus on the true issue at hand. Glad you got the refund, at least.

    James,

Is the condition he is describing what BBCE did when authenticating the packs or is that the condition it was in when he /she sent it to you in the first place?

Good for you, James. I think there's a contingent of people that would leave positive due to the refund. Hopefully you mentioned that BBCE declared it bad so the seller can't spin your feedback as a bad buyer.

I did mention BBCE is the feedabck. "I sent box to BBCE. All 36 packs were opened and resealed. Buyer beware"

I saw your feedback on eBay - great job!! Potential buyers need to be informed.
  • Looks like the seller has had some past issues with re-sealed packs. Thanks for calling this to our attention and doing the right thing and leaving a negative feedback!

The verbiage in these auctions sounds very familiar. None of the packs currently listed look authentic, imo.

Thank you James. Too many people won't leave the neg and it makes your help that much more valuable.

Sorry this happened. When I recently opened a sealed and searched measly $15 box it made me feel icky. Unopened is a ton of fun to collect and rip, but when you're taken advantage of...it really stings, even more so, I think, than buying a raw card that was found to be trimmed. Unopened product is like someone is taking complete advantage of you.

Unfortunately, with the feedback that was left, the seller can easily have it removed based on the premise that someone off eBay (BBCE) is mentioned. In the future I'd word it a bit differently, such as: "Sent box to professional authenticator. All packs were found to be opened and resealed. Buyer beware"

Thanks for leaving the feedback. I'm going to neg the guy that sold me the searched and resealed 89 Topps Hockey box. I think this sort of thing needs to be documented more often.

Love the resealed seller that blames the authenticator - bwah-hah-hah-ha!

Steve and BBCE to the rescue again!

Glad you got a refund and the negative feedback serves him right for peddling garbage.

I can't believe with that guy's feedback people are still bidding on his unopened packs.
  • itzagoneritzagoner Posts: 8,753 ✭✭
except for the fact that they may be considering the resale of the very same items.

What's the reason nobody is posting the name of the seller here? Seems to be he should be outed here.

I purchased 2 packs from him a few months ago. 1 of them was poorly resealed that it was obvious. The other pack was short 3 cards. I had to open an ebay case because he wouldn't respond to my messages.

This is just his latest ebay user name. These guys are constantly reinventing themselves going all the way back to boyerendeavors over 15 years ago..

  • are they in any way connected to bruingirl2007? I seem to remember that seller using similar style photos for their loose packs. Just checked and doesn't look like bruingirl2007 is selling loose packs anymore...but they are still using the "selling dads old cards" line still.

    He'll blame it on somethin'

    Gotta bame it on somethin'

Blame it on the rain, raintele.

bruingirl2007 in fact has a second "secret" ebay user ID (ohrather). The name on bruingirl2007's paypal account is Nicolette De Louche of Pacifica, California. The name on orather's paypal account is Sean De Louche of Pacifica, California. One of orather's recent ebay purchases was a lot consisting of five mint 1985 Topps baseball wrappers.

Ohrather himself was also a seller of unopened packs/boxes years back. IIRC, there was a couple of threads about him at the time.

    What a loser. Total liar.

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL BUYING HIS UNOPENED STUFF???!!!!
  • jfkheatjfkheat Posts: 2,745 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was just looking at some Ebay packs and found a seller that I THINK is the same as raintele. They have the same type of packs listed that are selling for under market value. I realize that a lot of sellers sell unopened packs. The thing that makes me think it is the same seller is that in the past both sellers sold the same brand of socks. The odds of both selling similar packs and one specific brand of socks is very slim. The newly found seller is jonatsawye. See the links below for feedback showing the packs and socks sold by both sellers.
    James

Edit to add: Both use the same listing style and listing program. Their locations are different.
