1962 topps baseball empty wax box question.

The box is a 5-cent wax box. I have the chance to buy one that is kind of beat up, not horrible, doesn't seem to have any writing or paper loss or staining but does have some bent up and rough edges. The guy wants $85. Is this a decent price?

any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you Daniel.
Weird, the box I'm looking at doesn't have the white part on the top, the box is all green.

Thats because there are two variations of the 62 five cent box: the one in the ebay auction with the mercury dimes, etc on the lid and the stamps ad on the front panel and the all green one (with no ad copy on the lid or stamps ad on the front) which is obviously the one you are considering buying.

From Mark Muphy's (The Baseball card Kid) unopened price guide. It shows a picture of a 1962 box with a green cover.

Just a minor correction on that box top. The dimes pictured are Roosevelt dimes, not Mercury dimes.

that link to the 62 is actually a stamp box as well. apples and oranges.

Begsu1013, I dont mean to sound condescending but if by your remark you mean that the box in the link to the ebay auction is a stamps box you are incorrect; the box in that ebay auction is indeed a 1962 box that held 24 five-cent packs of cards; the ad on the front panel (and the back panel too) of the box is advertising the stamps insert that came in each pack in that box along with the cards themselves. The stamps werent sold individually or separately (the albums to house the stamps were, however; I have a full box of 12 mint unused stamp albums and would be happy to send you a pic of it if you would like). So there are two different distinct five-cent boxes that five-cent packs of 1962 cards came in: the all-green one that the OP was thinking about buying which contained packs that only had cards (and gum) and no stamps and the one in the ebay auction which contained packs of cards (and gum) with the stamps insert. I hope this finally puts to bed any subsequent confusionimage

Sounds like a vending box, I think there's an empty one on eBay now.

ETA: There's actually a couple available Link
