Picked-up my first OPC Gretzky in 10 years -- UPDATE: PSA 3 arrived, w/ scans + checkout ThoseBackPa

Great card. I thought about getting one like it to be signed. Probably would have pulled the trigger if I thought a signing was a short-term possibility ... Enjoy!

You you have a pic of the PSA 9 Gretzky RC that you sold? I'd love to see it.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

  • Man, from a PSA 9 all the way to a PSA 1!? Since you say this is one of your favorite cards, what made you part with your PSA 9 back in the day? And why specifically were you wanting a PSA 1? Strictly a budget thing?

Beautiful card that you got though! Great centering for a PSA 1! Such an iconic card!

Iconic card with great centering. Enjoy it!
  • The centering is nice but why is it only a PSA 1?

Great looking for a 1. I sold a 2 a couple years ago that looked much worse than the 1 you bought.

That is a nice card. Congrats! I like it especially since the centering is great and there is not a bad tilt like a lot of them have.

Purchased this beauty earlier. Now my second low grade, centered Gretzky.

Not here yet, I'll post a picture of the back when it is.

Happy with the price, too ($300).

Very nice "3". I really don't think that crease takes a lot away from the card.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Thanks Doug, I agree, it doesn't look too bad.

Charrigan, I saw that card, almost pulled the trigger (since it's a decent price) but it's a bit too oc for me.
  • Agreed. All depends on how much they're willing to take!

Wow if I had a 3 that beautiful I'd sell the 1 in a heartbeat. Great card!

PSA 3 just arrived and here's a scan of the front and back. The crease looks like it's a factory issue, which doesn't take away from the overall eye-appeal of the card, especially in hand. Very pleased with this pickup.

So, my new collecting goal is to pickup as many nicely centered, low-grade, OPC Gretzky '79s that I can image

Looks like you have about $500 invested in your Psa 1 and 3. Say you spend another $500 on low grade gretzky rookies to make it a total of $1,000 invested. Would you rather have those or say a nicely centered Psa 7?
No wrong answer as it's strictly collector preference.

Great question. I don't look at cards as investment, though it's nice to be able to make a little bit or break-even on a purchase.

I once owned a PSA 9 OPC Gretzky '79 and didn't need the full amount I sold it for. In this case, with multiples, I can sell a few, if I had to, and still have some.

This also satisfies my disorder, I mean desire, to HOARD.

This thread makes me want to rethink my collecting strategy of not owning more than 1 of the same card.....damn you Patrick. image
