84 Star Jordan Expert, Is this real or a possible fake?

I bought this card, as the price was substantially lower than previous sales...... Seller has 2000+ feedback, cert# checks out with Beckett as being graded on 3/1/12. I know I am covered with Paypal Credit, and plan to send card to Beckett to reholder and let them review it. If you are familiar with the Star cards, does anyone see anything that stands out? I appreciate the feedback.

I saw that auction and almost hit Buyitnow. I think you got a great card for a solid price if it is real.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

Pic isn't so great, but from what I can tell it passes the sniff test.
  • What have 8.5's been going for on the 84 Star as of late?

  • << <i>What have 8.5's been going for on the 84 Star as of late? >>

It looks like the OP paid $2400. I have seen them sell for a little less than that. I believe I recall one selling for just over $2200.

Yea same here. But the OP said he recalls them going for higher than 2400 so he feels he got a great deal. Either way, if it's legit... great price for a great card. 84 Star MJ can only appreciate in time. Please post pics one you get in OP.
  • The last two went for 3k each. So I'd say he did well.

IMO, I'd say he paid a fair market price for it.

If you average it out, the card is probably a solid $2500-$2700 card consistently. Some a bit higher, some a little lower. The subgrades can come in to factor as well.

I'm showing the last two sold for $3499.99 and $4999.99 but both were BIN/BO and I can not see what those cards actually sold for.

Thanks, so not a crazy deal but still 20% under the last couple sold.

I think you done fine. It's a great card.
  • I remember seeing a BGS 9 Star RC with subs 9.5 centering & the rest 9's and it went in an open auction for over 10k if I remember correctly... So 1/4th of that for an 8.5 sounds like a great deal! I want to try for a BGS 9 someday, but if budget never gets to that point, I will be very happy to pick up an 8.5 instead! Great card, great pickup, and congrats!

9.5 centering is super tough to find on this card from what I have experienced. If you find one that well centered, you have something really special imo. There is one with 9 centering up for sale right now for just under 10k or BO.

Yeah and it doesn't seem to want to move at that price. I'm sure I'd be over paying, but if I had 10,000 just sitting around I'd pull the trigger n hit the BIN. It would just be something to marvel at IMO to add that card to the PC in the highest available grade! I wonder what offers he's been getting/turning down. Serious collectors must know it can't be that far off from 10K.

It's not the highest graded, I don't believe. I think there is a BGS 9.5 slabbed. As far as the offers, I don't know since there are so many low ballers and game players on Ebay. They might be solid offers, or then again, they may be low ballers hoping for a steal. Hard to say.

I just think it's nuts that collectors are willing to spend 10k on PSA 10 Fleer RC's easily, but not spend that in a heart beat for his Star in mint condition. Wow so there's finally a 9.5 huh? I haven't checked the pop report in a while. Man, if that one ever hit the auction block, I'm thinking 20-30k easy! Maybe more?

I'd be a buyer on the 9's for about $6500-$6750 right now depending on the subgrades. I really wish PSA would grade these. The $9999 card was just up on straight auction last week for $7500 and went unbid on, so the market is under that.

If PSA decides to grade these, look out!

I think it's only a matter of time. PSA will get into these I would almost bet on it! Even if it takes a few more years

But then the question becomes, do all BGS 9's get crossed over & therefore have the BGS pop report rendered completely false? Because even with the Fleer's, I HIGHLY doubt there are really that many 9's, 9.5's, and 10's out there for either company. There have probably been hundreds of cross overs!

Card looks authentic to me and has always been a nice looking star Jordan. I prefer the look of a couple of the star 1985s and the 1986 Fleer will always be a classic for its great pose.
