I remember growing up in Denver and watching Colorado Buffalo football in the late 60's and early 70's. A star player for the Golden Buffs was none other than Cliff Branch, later of Oakland Raider and NFL Fame.

Well Colorado was receiving the opening kickoff and Cliff Branch was the return man. He caught the kickoff about 8 yards deep in the end zone and decided to run it out. 108 yards later he scored. He ran more than 108 yards on the play because he zigged and zagged to find open spots in the defense that he could run through. Eventually he broke into daylight and took off. No one touched him.

The run back was awesome. However what made it magical was that the play clock when he caught the ball in the end zone read 15:00. The clock started running down the time from 15:00 when he touched the ball. When he arrived in the end zone scoring the touchdown the game clock read............................................... 14:49.

That's right. 14:49, meaning that Cliff Branch ran, in full uniform, through the opposing defense in a zig zag manner, 108 yards (more actually) in a mind blowing 11 SECONDS!!!!!

It was the most amazing play on a football field I have ever, ever seen.

    Nothing really.

Just thinking about TD's 99.5 year run made my memory flask back to the Cliff Branch kickoff return.image

Sorry to send your thread off in a different direction.

    Carry on.

    Dimeman,

I was watching that game. Although I live about 26 miles away from Dallas, I never much cared for the Cowboys, but that play was pretty neat and I remember talking about it that week at school. If I recall correctly I was in Jr. High around that time.

I watched it live & good friend was there at the game live.

Vikings had that chalk on the field as they were sharing it with baseball & I'm guessing they didn't know how to "paint" the field back then without it coming off. Horrible era of football in MN
    Enjoy your collection!

Certainly tragic, but losing a Click and Clack brother had a greater impact on me.

    I was watching.

A lot of fans don't realize that Dallas only had ten men on the field during that play. Count them if you have the chance.

    Roll on, John.........

Yeah I remember watching that Monday Night play like it was yesterday. Just remarkable balance shown Dorsett. I think what I remember most about Tony was the way he could run so very low to the ground as he went through the hole and then just pop up and keep going. He also had that break away speed, where if you didn't have the angle on him then he was going to beat you to wherever he was going. Coach Landry was also smart enough not to overwork Tony during the season so he would have something extra when the playoffs came about. Meanwhile the Houston Oilers rode poor Earl Campbell straight into the ground. They just kept running Campbell to the redline until he gave out. It didn't help that Earl liked to run over linebackers on each and every play throughout the game. Eventually he developed more scar tissue on his thighs then any player in the history of football.

I also remember a few years before that game watching the Cowboys and Falcons in the divisional playoffs where Drew Pearson caught two touchdown passes at the end of the game and saying that guy is amazing! The one think I will always remember about Pearson was how he could run a route and never look at the ball till the very last second, then snatch it right as the defender turned his head looking for the ball.

The Jet 4th quarter comeback vs Miami, capped with a TD catch by Jumbo Elliott, is the one I remember quite fondly. It seems like an eternity ago that Parcells was here. We miss him.

I remember it well. Watching the game on my little 13" tv in my bedroom staying up way too late and being wrecked for school the next morning.

Would have been worth it if they had won. I blame Tony Romo. He was probably watching the game and jinxed us.
