1989 Kentucky's Finest Collegiate Collection set
You guys remember way back in the day when everyone's favorite shopping channel Shop at Home hyped up so-called Jordan COLLEGE ROOKIES!!!! ? Nice card to be sure but isn't it kinda hard for them to be MJ's "college rookies" if the cards came out in 1989...over five years after Jordan was done at UNC?
Anyway, in the 1989 Collegiate Collection series, it's the North Carolina (w/ Jordans) set that gets all the attention, but they did several other schools as well and finally at long last I was able to find a set of my beloved alma mater, the Kentucky Wildcats! It's a very nice looking set from what I see in the pic (I should receive them Monday) and since the set came out right after the Sutton Administration (but apparently in time for the press conference announcing the start of the Pitino Administration) I'm hoping this means the set will focus mainly on the Rupp/Hall eras because I'm especially interested in learning more about that part of our rich history.
I'm wondering if I should do an Official 2015 Kentucky Wildcats quest for a 9th title this year...

But first exhibition basketball game is today!
Congrats on the set Estil.
Tough game yesterday. Offense couldn't move the ball at all.
Pumped for the basketball game tonight though!
Go Big Blue!
Thanks
Craig
Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
<< <i>Nice set and Go Big Blue!! Glad the game was away yesterday because if was cold, wet, and rainy here in Lex. Next week we get Georgia and it should be sunny and 55 degrees. Basketball starts tonight which means productivity will be down everywhere in the state until early April >>
Well our first real game is the 14th when we host Grand Canyon (which will hopefully be how far behind they get! ). I've also lately been really into researching UK basketball history (I've always been quite a sports history buff in case you guys can't tell by what kind of baseball/football cards and retro video games I collect) and making nice Excel charts/spreadsheets of our seasons, players, boxscores, and so on with the help of bigbluenation.net . And I believe we start the season in first place in the AP poll and we only lost four guys from last season (and two of those were from graduation)...not bad for the alleged king of "one year wonders" Hopefully all those guys from last season (who last year came just six points shy of a championship after we lost three out of our last four regular season games) will be quite hungry to finish the job this year!!

<< <i>Those sets are great for autographs but it seems as though they are rather plentiful??? I sold 400 of the Barry Sanders cards from the Oklahoma State set and only got $10. A little disappointing, but oh well. I bought a case of the OSU set to get a bunch of the wrestlers in that set. >>
Some of the Collegiate Collection stuff is very plentiful, while some is next to impossible to find.

<< <i>A great way to learn a little more about UK history is to try to collect all of the Cats Pause Yearbooks. I have a few from the 80's and 90's. I have a friend that has most of them ever made. >>
Oh I would love to someday get those! I think my grandma has the 1985 one, which was the last year of the Hall Administration.

<< <i>Wait a sec, are you telling me you were a player??? >>
Yes. Played catcher there 1988-1990, and collected cards as well. When we played Frank Thomas at Auburn my junior year it was a Fox Sports South game, and I have a tape of it. Years ago my wife is watching it and asking "why is that guy so much bigger than you", and as a catcher I am not a small guy. I told her because he is 6'5 265 and looks like a T Rex! As soon as his Leaf cards came out in 1990 I grabbed every card and box I could and made a nice little sum when I would set up at card shows. Used to play against Piazza back down in Florida, and he used to bring me game used items from Vero from Dodgertown - if I had known he was going to be that good I would have grabbed HIS stuff and kept it
So at the time you faced Thomas, could you have envisioned that right before the "future" (as the second Back to the Future movie, which came out when you played, defined it) he'd become a HOFer?

<< <i>Say does that Alabama Crimson Tide fan still come on here? If so I bet he'd love the Alabama version of this set! I mean doesn't Alabama think just as much of their football as Kentucky does their basketball? >>
Anyone have this set? PM me if you do.
