Values v. Cost project - may be of interest

So I embarked on a little project of which I am halfway through. I wanted to compile - with as much specificity as possible - just what I have spent on ripping during my return to collecting baseball cards a little over three years ago. And next I was going to tally up the approximate value of all the graded cards that resulted from those rips.

Compiling the rip costs turned out to be a more arduous (and sobering) task than I thought it would be. I wasn't planning on sharing this with the world when I set about to do it. But I think this list may actually be of interest in a number of ways to a certain segment of people.

I think what is most significant is the increase in pricing over the last few years (which isn't news to anyone on this board).

My takeaway - ripping a box of 1979 at $375 was a risky proposition when I did it. Now it would be sheer lunacy!

Next up, I am going to compile a total value of cards that I have graded from these rips.

Sorry that I don't always specify the number of racks or packs that I purchased at any one time. I know without that info, the numbers are pretty much meaningless. Also, sometimes I include shipping and sometimes I don't. But otherwise, there may be some interesting info to glean.

You sir have mega man spheres - kudos to you
I stopped counting my expenditures when I hit 5k after two years
Recouping 20% of that for me would be a dream
    Love the ripping though.

I prefer to ignore how much all the packs I've ripped over the past decade would be worth today, LOL!!

However, I have had a lot of fun and have learned quite a bit about unopened product and collation during that time.

Also graded a lot of PSA 10s along the way from the 75 minis and 78 Topps, in particular.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
