Steve Largent played football in 1989....

What is the reason for a lack of cards in the 1990 sets? I can only think of a couple action packed and Score ( same photo lol )? Is it just as simple as not signing contracts with Topps, Fleer and so on? I would think companies would want to print a final card of a future HOF.

Yea, you would think so wouldn't you.... Topps has a long history of ignoring the last year of even the immortals (think Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Harmon Killebrew, etc)

I think since he announced his retirement early in his final season, they simply didnt make any cards of him in '90 knowing that he wasn't active anymore.

    Just a thought.

  • Value wise they would worthless but, how cool would it have been to have a Fleer issue or a base Score. Both cool card designs. Mabe I'll find one of the great card makers and have something done ( on proper stock ). Would PSA green slab something like that? I think it's green anyway.

I remember something similar being in the news once about an important baseball player (Brett? Schmidt?) and Topps explaining that contractually they no longer had the ability to put them on the card due to the terms of their contract with MLB and/or MLBPA. Essentially that he was not under the contract because he was not playing in the calendar year the card was produced (though the cards being produced in that year reflected what was happening in a prior season).

Always looking for 1993-1999 Baseball Finest Refractors and1994 Football Finest Refractors.

That must be it, because he was huge in 1989 from a card collecting perspective. Just look at how many homerun cards McGwire had in 1999 after his record breaking year. I'm sure the card issuers would have pounced on the Largent opportunity in 1990 if it was possible.

    you're equating McGwire's collecting popularity in 1999 vs Largent's in 1990?
