It was probably done before any of us were even born, whippersnapper ...the carving, not necessarily the counterstamp. Would you change your view if it were discovered to have been dallied with outside of Gettysburg during the civil war, or while on a wagon covering the great expanse to Oregon, or in a trench in 1916? People have dallied with coins forever. This is just another.

It's the rare upside-down "8" variety and should be worth a big premium from a specialist!
