Submission philosophy

So I have my hot little vouchér for 15 submissions and I wanted to get some feedback before sending in.
My initial thinking is since I'm sending primarily newer cards, that I shoot for ones that are pretty sure to get 10's. But what is the value for modern cards with say a 9 or 8 grade? For example, I'm fairly sure my 93 Sp Jeter won't come back 10, but a 9 or 8 would still have value. But what about a 2011 Platinum JJ Watt, or 2012 Topps Andrew Luck?
What about Nolan Ryan Topps 82-89? Would 9's or 8's have resale value? I'm curious because I read about the set registry and that sounds like fun. Imagine getting 10's for all those... LOL!!!
Any advice is much obliged...

Mid-1980's Nolan Ryan cards that come back at an 8 would certainly lose money, and 9's would maybe break even. If you don't have a shot at a 10 with a major star, sending in 1980's junk is almost always a losing proposition.
<< <i>I've had pretty good luck turning around my 2013-2014 PSA 10 baseball cards at $15-$20 each. They are all base cards of major current stars. Not a huge margin, but a profit nonetheless.

what he said. do not waste the vouchers on low end cards....since the have a top value of $500 per voucher, I send in cards meeting that mark in potential value.
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

<< <i>Nip. pls keep in mind what was spent on the 2013/14 boxes, then grading etc. Don't be like the old lady at the dog track claiming a hundred dollar WIN after betting 2 hundred on the race. >>
Gee, I never thought of putting the cost into that.
Thanks for the advice, Trump, but that's what "margin" means. After selling off the autos, Buybacks, and all of the other inserts, the cost of a jumbo box is negligible. That leaves you with grading costs and selling fees.
I appreciate your concern, but I'm more than capable of calculating net profit.
If you have the time create some scans of some of the Nolan Ryan cards I am sure some on the board will be helpful in pointing out potential flaws.
One thing you may consider doing is looking through your collection and finding some of the higher dollar raw cards and sending those in to have graded and you can use them for trade or resale to further an area that you care more about. My collecting focus changed significantly and I was able to grade and sell some of my cards and use those resources to further my current focus and the grading element naturally enhanced the value.
In terms of modern cards. I get the feeling that most base cards in an 8 would be a losing proposition but if you have some of the more rare inserts or limited print run rookies it might still be wise to grade those.
Good luck with your sub.
<< <i>I generally try and send in higher value cards on my renewal submissions but I also consider what my raw stack looks like and if it is small I will send in lower dollar cards I want in a slab. A lot of the specials have 50 card minimum so while you are not getting as much bang for your buck you at least can advance your collection.
