I am a Hall of Fame Rookie Collector. I collect the managers as well. I collect the manager's first year cards as managers as their rookies. I started a Hall of fame manager set registry. I have a 1977 Dodgers Team PSA 9 with Lasorda on the front as manager as this was his first year under the helm. It did not get added to the set. Nor did my 1980 Topps White Sox Team Mgr Tony Larussa PSA 10 as this was his first year.
I may be the only one that collects the managers first year manager cards.....but maybe not....
any insight would be awesome...

In general, I'd use a combination of Wikipedia (to get their first year as a manager) and Beckett.com to look for team/manager cards from that year.
I'd be interested to see if there is an earlier card than this for Mack, 1906 Fan Craze listed by someone on ebay. It's not my favorite of his cards, but it is the earliest one I could find.
Didn't know this until just now, but SGC apparently labels these as 1904 even though PSA has them as 1906.

Not sure what to do on this one, first managing gig was 1915, but not sure if the 1916 pictures him with that team. He was a player only from 1916-20 and next managing gig started 1922.

There are also cards of some of them as coaches before they were managers, such as how the 1973 Topps/OPC Walt Alston MGR card includes Lasorda on it as well when he was a coach.
