Just won this one. Do you think the scratch through the shield will keep it out of a slab? What grade do you think it would get? Let me know if you think you see any other issues.
Thanks,
Richard

As for the slight scratch.....it shouldn't keep it out of a slab.
XF40
Good luck to you.
i like her as a great example of an xf40
truly a gem there...congrats if the price point was pleasing too...
they approved this one with that scratch above the date in au53 grade for me awhile back

No, but reverse cleaning might.
Details are easily XF, though

LDS and at least a 40 and more like a 45 for wear, if the graders care. Scratch doesn't bother me either but it does look lightly cleaned.

I suspected that there was likely an old cleaning and let it go, but it may be fully acceptable in hand....or it may have more serious cleaning related issues once you
get it, if so definately send it back !
Looked one more time...I'd say it stands a very good chance of being just fine
Of course it's been cleaned. It's 200+ years old and it would probably be black, if original. I think it will grade without problem.

I agree with the 35 grading on this one. Should slab if you want to send her in.
These do come with fairly strong strikes even though the dies were well used.
Here is mine that is in desperate need of a Lance view as a comp.

<< <i>I used to love the OP's coin. I don't remember anything that would preclude a slab. Back when I won it (raw) in a Stack's auction they called it an XF but I carried it on my books as VF+.
Looks like it has a bit more color than the sellers pics showed. I look forward to seeing. I like how his pics show the colors in the hidden areas though.
How long ago did you have it?
Thanks for all the opinions on it.

Picked it up in 2004--sold it in 2011.
