PayPal Purchase - Buyer Protection?

Hi All,

I'm about to make a purchase (off eBay) and pay via PayPal. If I make the purchase as a goods purchase (so, grossed up for the transaction fee), do I have any sort of protection if the seller flakes? Should I consider making the payment via PayPal and using a credit card instead of checking or existing PayPal balance for an added layer of protection?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • Yes and Yes. If you use an invoice, you have buyer protection through PayPal. Details here. I would also recommend using a credit card to fund the transaction as opposed to your bank account, as it adds an additional layer of protection via chargebacks.

Just went through a claim as a buyer, non-eBay.
Took a while to close in my favor. Make sure you save all communication with seller and an invoice used.
I collect Seattle Pilots autographs, 1969 Topps autographs, Signed Mickey Mantle Home Run History cards and have a JC Martin collection (he was my college Baseball coach)

  • I was just wondering about this myself as I am about to make a purchase off eBay.
So do I ask for an invoice from the seller then?
    And use credit card.
    Thanks!
