For 10 years (1952 to 1961)...Topps issued only individual rookies of baseball players. Did Topps wait until a player broke into the big leagues before a rookie made an appearance in a set?
Then for about 20 years (1962 to 1982)...Topps produced multi player rookies...with the first two years (1962 and 1963) the only appearance of the infamous floating heads (I like those depictions actually). With the multi player rookies...I assume Topps was trying to get a jump on a player's promotion to the big leagues. Was this possibly to appease collectors who wanted a card of a player the year he broke into the majors?
Topps traded sets in the early 1980s put an end to the multi player rookies even though Fleer continued to use this format during the 1980s.
