Ebay duplicate listing screw up.....beware and take heed..

AUandAGAUandAG Posts: 25,038 ✭✭✭✭✭
I tried to list two wheat cents with the same title (No Date Wheat Cent, Mint Error) and ebay did not allow the
second one to go live as they said it was a duplicate listing. Well, we all know that no two coins are the same
even if you call them the same name.
They said they had to be auctions (which they are) and listed to end at different times (which they are) in order
to not be a duplicate listing.....Dang, had to go through two reps to get the problem solved.

So here is the fix: Put a number behind the title so that they think they are different (which they are). I just
put a #2 behind the second coin and it went live.

PITA

Could you have listed them in the same auction showing you had a quantity of 2? Or were they vastly different?

With most errors, I would do separate auctions, as the OP did. Doing 1 auction, with multiple photos/items available, just lends itself to potential issues with the buyers down the road ("I wanted the other one!...SNAD!!!")

Yes...just putting something different in the auction titles would cure that......"No date wheat cent, mint error #1a" "No date wheat cent, mint error #1b", etc.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

That's a possibility, but not a work around solution for a true auction. It's fine if one is asking the same price for each item. But an auction and a sale are different, just as 2 coins are
The same thing happened to me with a bag of "quarters". Each silver quarter is different, but instead of me being able to take advantage of ebay offering 100 free listings, it was my intent to sell 100 silver quarters "at auction", individually. Instead of being able to "repeat" the process of listing, the second one was shut down because it was a duplicate listing. I thought "HOW could it be a duplicate " if there are 2 coins with the same date and mintmark, they're still different , aren't they ?

Odd as it was, that's a simple workaround solution by the OP . And a PITA just the same.

I've done about the same thing when listing Eagles of the same date by just by varying the start price by one cent.

I had similar issues with different slabbed coins being delisted. Finally got to the right person and they said e-bay was wrong, but they would have to send the delisted listing to a review board...crazy! The review board has still to decide 2 weeks later. Who cares!!! E-Bay's loss and their stock price is reflecting this type of decision making.

i usually just add a period or an "a" or "b" etc to the listing title. works every time. so long as one character is different.

I believe same title can be used if a different start price is used.
