Mine was a step upward. It was a copper lined cigar humidor table that my grandfather had gotten when he was in Cuba.

Similar to the one shown. It had baseball cards and coins. Sadly, while off with Uncle Sam, the whole thing was stolen from our house.

It does amaze me how many people store coins in old ammo cans. Joe Thief thanks you, as a full ammo box of ammo is a quick sale for good $$, and it even comes with a convenient carrying handle. Bonus round when it is full of coins.

Have you ever noticed that a lot of collectors seem to store coins or Hobby supplies in empty Cigar Boxes??

I don't consider myself "seasoned" by any means but I have spent enough time on both sides of a coin shop counter to see lots and lots of Cigar Boxes being carried by collectors as things are sold to the proprietor. Evidently, we as a group have decided that the container which previously held Tobacco products is a sturdy, compact and properly sized container(plus, it probably comes to us free, always a good point) for our Numismatic treasures. I think I came upon my first box as a child and budding collector when my father still got involved. I don't know where it came from but one has always been there. I recall stopping at a Tobacco shop inside of a local Mall to buy used boxes, not necessarily for coin although they eventually ended up there.

It must be that innate sense which tells a collector that THE BOX is the proper thing to use!!(Image)

Now as an adult and advanced collector there are many other ways to store stuff, yet I still retain several of the old school Cigar Boxes. And as strange as it might seem I find myself intrigued by them when they come into our shop carrying goods that a collector is getting rid of. I invariably ask my boss if I can have them and although they aren't always used they are there if I need them.

Do you have a Cigar Box that you use? More than one?? Can you post a picture?? Thanks and enjoy.(Image)

I love cigar boxes! Usually you can buy them at a cigar store for a few bucks each. The wood boxes cost more. At one time I had over thirty of all sizes and shapes with only a few duplicates because they were "special" for some reason. I'm down to around a dozen in storage.

I don't have any cigar boxes, but have always thought they had cool graphics on the outside.

The first time I saw a Morgan silver dollar was at my friends house. His dad was a smoker and he had his old coins stored in a cigar box. Brings back some great memories.

    Thanks for sharing.

The trouble with the cardboard boxes is that after you open it too many times, the lid falls off.

If I was to store coins in a cigar box now, I would use the wood box with the hinges and latch.

Can we talk about all the Crown Royal bags in this hobby?

No idea what you're talking about.
Pro tip: Visit your local big box liquor store. If yours is like mine, they'll have a humidor room full of cigars. You'll find a pile of boxes next to the door. $1 each, regardless of size or shape.

Stopped by said store this afternoon for...supplies.

I've got about 20 or so wooden cigar boxes that I have kept coins and coin supplies in for 20 or more years and have given many away as gift containers(they make great shipping containers for cameras and lenses, also).
